Mission

Assistant Safety Director to lead, in conjunction with the Safety Director, all safety operations across the United States. This leadership position is responsible for developing and executing the company's safety strategy while leading a large, high-performing safety team that supports multiple operating locations nationwide.

The successful candidate will be a strategic leader who is equally comfortable developing long-term safety initiatives and engaging directly with field operations. This role requires someone who can influence leaders at every level of the organization, drive accountability, and foster a culture where safety is a core value.

The primary focus of this position is leading all driver safety and transportation safety initiatives while overseeing, in conjunction with the Safety Director, the company's overall occupational safety program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide, along with Safety Director, strategic leadership for all safety operations throughout the United States.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a large team of safety professionals across multiple locations.
  • Develop and implement with approval from Safety Director company-wide safety strategies, policies, and programs that reduce risk and improve performance.
  • Partner with leadership and operational teams to strengthen the organization's safety culture.
  • Lead all driver safety initiatives, including fleet safety, vehicle accident prevention, driver coaching, and transportation compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Oversee investigations involving vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, and significant safety incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor key safety performance indicators.
  • Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and interactions with governmental agencies.
  • Deliver safety training programs that promote accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Identify emerging risks and implement proactive solutions that protect employees and company assets.

What It Takes to Be Successful

This is a demanding leadership position supporting a 24/7 operation. The individual selected must thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly and decisive leadership is essential.

Safety incidents and emergencies do not always occur during normal business hours. As a result, this position requires availability during evenings, weekends, holidays, and other off-hours when significant incidents require executive-level leadership and support.

This is a highly visible role that requires a hands-on leader who enjoys spending time in the field, coaching leaders, engaging with employees, and ensuring safety expectations are consistently met. Success will require resilience, sound judgment, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.

Profil

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, Industrial Safety, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive safety leadership experience in a multi-site environment.
  • Experience leading and developing large safety teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations and best practices.
  • Demonstrated success leading driver safety and fleet safety programs.
