Full Job Description

GFT is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to join our Construction Services Team in New York, NY to work on construction projects. This role requiring regular attendance in New York, NY office.

 

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As an Assistant Resident Engineer, you will provide technical support for construction management activities on multi-disciplinary public works projects. Working under the supervision of the Project Manager (PE) or their designated representative, you will support field and office activities and perform related technical tasks required to advance the project.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Read and comprehend client Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), contract plans, technical specifications, including construction details, methods of measurement and basis for payment, approved submittals, Change Orders, and other project documentation.
  • Monitor, inspect, and document field construction activities and prepare detailed daily Inspector’s Reports, including engineering sketches, quantity measurements, calculations, and related documentation.
  • Maintain a depository for daily Inspector’s Reports from all inspectors assigned to the project.
  • Track and check Time & Materials calculations for contractor additional work and overtime.
  • Track and document the status of Special Inspector activities.
  • Track and check applications for payment from outside agencies for Force Account work, such as MTA user groups, including track, power, signals, and communications, as required to protect their assets.
  • Utilize proprietary and client construction management and scheduling software, such as e-Builder, Procore, and P6.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to prepare agendas for periodic and ad hoc meetings addressing project issues, including Progress Meetings, permitting, Environmental Health & Safety, Submittals, and other project matters.
  • Prepare records of meetings, finalize documentation following client and internal review, and distribute to project stakeholders.
  • Prepare and update PowerPoint presentations for stakeholder meetings conducted through Microsoft Teams.
  • Assist in verifying monthly Applications for Payment, including calculating quantities.
  • Assist in finalizing project closeout activities.
  • Prepare and update internal project progress reports, including Estimate to Complete (ETC) and narrative technical reports.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as required.

What you’ll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a construction management office supporting a Project Manager (PE) or their designated representative on a multi-disciplinary public works project.

  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification.

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year.

  • Good organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a project team.

  • Working knowledge of construction management and scheduling software such as e-Builder, Procore, and P6.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.

  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, Change Orders, submittals, and related technical documentation.

  • This position includes a mix of field and office work environments.

  • May be required to work in confined spaces on occasion with appropriate safety procedures in place.

  • Must have the physical ability to navigate uneven terrain encountered on construction sites, climb ladders, work at heights on scaffolding, and sit or stand for extended periods.

  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

 

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $92,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
