Full Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our federal team supporting the Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV.

Pay range: $90,000 - $110,000. Negotiable based on experience.
Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment
Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, and 10 standard holidays per calendar year (6.5 weeks in total)

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will:

  • Assist Operations Manager and regional management team on large install and/or service order projects as well as general office administrative duties.
  • Acts as one of the primary on-site leaders for execution of teams on assigned projects
  • Assist in the selection, ordering, tracking, and delivery schedule of materials to be procured for assigned projects and general office need
  • May assist with developing project schedules
  • Assists in the evaluation of contractual scopes of work and the impact of client issued bulletins, field directives, or scheduling changes.
  • Assists with project billings in a timely and accurate format to the client
  • Reviews and interprets contract Terms and Conditions. Escalates issues and concerns to higher level Management
  • Analyzes financial reporting systems and project schedules to proactively address potential problems. Effectively communicates project progress, issues and financial status to management as required
  • Manages risks and establishes project recovery plans when required. Escalates disputes as needed
  • Assists with preparing and issuing subcontracts
  • Supports project construction for compliance with specifications, local codes and installation techniques
  • Develops and maintains viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors and subcontractors. Attends job progress meetings as required
  • Ensures subcontractors understand expectations of the project
  • Coordinates with the Manager and/or service team members for allocation of resources needed to meet project objectives
  • May assist Manager and / or sales in project development efforts. Assists to develop cost estimates and sub-contractor scope documents and solicitations for bids
  • Coordinates customer-training requirement
  • Completion of field verification work for daily log updates and daily safety compliance reports
  • Helps prepare and approve submittals, cost estimates, contract terms & conditions, and technical responses to client requests for bid/proposals. Communicates both technical and business related issues with the clients
  • Coordinates all subcontractor work; mechanical and electrical subcontractors including scope, terms and conditions, scheduling, as well as, oversee billing processes. Works with JCFS Procurement team who secures pricing and availability from outside vendors and suppliers.
  • Develops and maintains viable long-term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants and subcontractors. Regularly attends job progress meetings.
  • Ensures Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors adhere to all safety standards including internal safety programs and US Army Corps of Engineers Safety & Health requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Position requires in person and over the phone interactions with customers.
  • Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience
  • Strong personal computer working capabilities with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances for assigned sites. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency working with the submittal process
  • Experience working with commercial or industrial HVAC mechanical and/or HVAC control systems with understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) concepts
  • Experience reading and interpreting government contracts. Prior experience supporting military or government sites highly preferred
  • Experience working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project requirements
  • Proficient in Project Management software and financial accounting systems. Experience working with Microsoft Project preferred
  • Experience working with ordering and tracking of parts


Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent work related experience
  • PMP certification
