Transportation Services (TS) has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Manager to join the UW Shuttles team.

About this Opportunity

The Shuttle Assistant Manager reports to a TS Manager for Shuttles and is responsible for the day-to-day direction and control of one TS workgroup and/or program including supervision of program staff and operations, identification and implementation of operational tactics, and operational planning, stewardship.

The TS Assistant Manager has day-to-day oversight of transactional, service, and compliance activities for the assigned workgroups or program and has significant authority in establishing workgroup procedures and tactics to ensure that those activities are carried out in keeping with organizational strategy, departmental/institutional policy, and applicable law/regulation.

Key Responsibilities

Personnel (35%):
• Direct supervisory responsibility (hiring, staff development, work allocation, and performance management) for up to a maximum of 15 FTEs, including regular classified and student employees.
• Ensure that staff are supported in their work with appropriate tools and training.

Administration (25%):
• Execute functions associated with organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Assist with interpretation of requirements; develop, document, and implement procedures; conduct analysis and reporting; make recommendations for remediation or correction; ensure that resources are deployed consistent with organizational strategy and plans; development and implementation of procedures to ensure transactional accuracy.

Service (20%):
• Provide service recovery for escalated issues or initial resolution for high-profile individuals.
• Represent the program to business partners and other internal and external stakeholders.

Professional Development (10%):
• Stay informed of industry trends and practices.
• Represent the workgroup or organization to industry peers and business partners.
• Ensure presence of and participation in position-appropriate professional development programs and activities for/by staff in assigned program areas.

Project Management (10%):
• Manages one or more significant projects at any given time, including workgroup initiatives and cross-functional initiatives.
• Set goals, establish timelines, manage resources, establish roles and allocate work, monitor/measure progress, take remedial action or celebrate project/team successes as appropriate.

Perform the job duties of a Shuttle Driver.

Perform other duties as assigned (OR comparable).

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or the equivalent experience AND two years of experience in a transportation operations department or program, including supervision/personnel management
  • Washington State Class B Commercial Driver's License or higher with Passenger Endorsement and the air brake restriction removed.
  • Possession of current CDL medical certification at time of employment.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills; ability to work successfully with people at all levels throughout the organization and with a wide range of constituencies; ability to maintain and model composure in a fast-paced, dynamic customer service driven environment
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to work independently and successfully coordinate multiple tasks within project priorities; demonstrated flexibility to meet changing/unpredictable needs
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to analyze complex information, and to define and solve problems; ability to function effectively within a complex regulatory environment; ability to develop and interpret policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard productivity software include Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively travel locally to alternate work sites as needed

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal or job requirements such as license/certification/registration

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in the public or higher education sectors; experience in the parking and/or transportation industries; experience in specific areas of programmatic oversight
• Earned Bachelors and/or advanced degree
• Experience working cooperatively with union representatives
• Experience successfully leading team members within a Lean process improvement environment
• Experience with University business systems; experience with industry or program specific business systems
• Familiarity with and commitment to Transportation Demand Management principles

Working Conditions

• Pre-employment drug test is required coupled with participation in an ongoing random drug/alcohol testing program in compliance with Federal regulations.
• UW Shuttles provides service on behalf of UW Medicine/UW Medical Center and affiliated organizations. As such, UW Shuttles are considered an extension of the patient-focused culture and drivers are required to maintain the following vaccinations, consistent with UWMC policy 35-5: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis (Tdap), and Influenza with the exception of Hepatitis B.
• Possession of a valid Washington State Class B Commercial Driver's License or higher with Passenger Endorsement and the air brake restriction removed.
• Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• May be required to lift / move up to 40 lbs.
• Work may be required during hours beyond standard business hours or regularly scheduled shift, including weekends; professional travel may be required
• Program management will include periodic outdoor or field work, exposure to the elements and variable weather conditions, and materials or fumes consistent with the transportation field and predictable to the particular program assignment

$88,452.00 annual
