Full Job Description
The Assistant Human Resources Director is a key member of the hotel's leadership team and serves as the operational partner to the Director of Human Resources. This role is responsible for leading the day-to-day Human Resources function, overseeing all Human Resources office administration, and fostering a culture that reflects Hyatt's purpose of caring for people so they can be their best. The ideal candidate is passionate about creating an engaging colleague experience and understands the pace, creativity, and service expectations of a lifestyle hotel.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Human Resources professional with strong generalist knowledge and expertise in payroll, training and development, benefits, workforce planning, talent acquisition, compensation administration, colleague and labor relations, compliance, and California employment law. This highly visible leader partners closely with department leaders to provide coaching, guidance, and strategic HR support while ensuring operational excellence across all Human Resources functions.

In partnership with the Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Director assists with both short- and long-term HR strategy, executes hotel and company initiatives, and serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and colleagues. Hyatt strives to develop Assistant Directors into future Human Resources Directors. The Human Resources function prides itself on excellence, service, integrity, accountability, and care.

This is an exempt (salaried) role. The budgeted salary range for this position is $77,000-$90,000. This is the pay range for this position that Thompson Palm Springs reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors including experience and education. This position is NOT available for remote or Hybrid. Relocation available.

Primary Responsibilities include:

The Assistant Director will play a significant role in creating strategies that attract, engage, develop, and retain exceptional talent while supporting Thompson Palm Springs' vision of becoming the preeminent lifestyle destination in Palm Springs.
  • Partner with the Director of Human Resources to lead the daily Human Resources operation and execute strategic people initiatives.
  • Foster a culture centered on colleague experience, wellbeing, engagement, inclusion, and Hyatt's purpose and values.
  • Oversee payroll administration, timekeeping, and HR compliance processes.
  • Administer compensation, salary, wage, and organizational change administrative processes.
  • Lead workforce planning, full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and offboarding.
  • Coordinate leadership development, compliance training, and colleague learning programs.
  • Coach and support leaders on performance management, coaching, corrective action, investigations, California employment law, and Hyatt policies.
  • Manage colleague and labor relations while resolving workplace concerns with fairness, consistency, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Lead colleague engagement, recognition, wellbeing initiatives, and HR communications.
  • Champion Hyatt programs and initiatives, including Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and leadership development.
  • Partner with Director of Human Resources to maintain relationships with local Coachella Valley organizations, schools, hospitality programs, and community partners to strengthen recruitment and community engagement.

Human Resources Office Administration
  • Oversee the daily administration and operations of the Human Resources office, ensuring a highly organized, efficient, and service-oriented environment.
  • Manage all HR administrative functions, including personnel files, records management, document retention, correspondence, employment documentation, departmental purchasing, invoices, office supplies, scheduling, and audit readiness.
  • Ensure all Human Resources documentation, compliance requirements, reporting, and employment records are accurate, complete, confidential, and maintained in accordance with Hyatt standards and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Coordinate departmental calendars, meetings, onboarding logistics, colleague communications, invoices, office workflows, and departmental projects to ensure timely execution of priorities.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve Human Resources administrative processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, compliance, and the overall colleague experience.
  • Serve as the Human Resources leader in the absence of the Director of Human Resources.
