Introduction

The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill an Assistant Health Services Manager (AHSM) position, in the Nursing Supervisor classification. This position is based out of Stanley Correctional Institution in Stanley, WI (Chippewa County).

Position Summary

The Assistant Health Services Manager (AHSM) works collaboratively with the Health Services Manager (HSM), overseeing operations and clinical care in the Health Services Unit. The AHSM is a Registered Nurse (RN) with expertise in nursing care and health care operations. The AHSM works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including Dental Services, Medical/Provider Services, Psychological Services and other specialties within the health care team, and assists in providing administrative support and direction of the HSU. This position has considerable latitude for independent action within established DOC/DAI Institution and BHS standards, policies and procedures.

The AHSM works within DOC policies and procedures and ensures that health care delivery meets appropriate community and regulatory health care standards and ensures quality care is based on evidence-based practice and current National Commission of Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards. The AHSM collaborates with HSU and Institution leadership to ensure patients have timely access to safe, high-quality care and identifies and removes barriers to care. This position fosters a healthy, collaborative work environment where staff feel safe, supported and encouraged to share ideas to improve the care provided to patients. The AHSM is responsible for mentoring and coaching of assigned staff. In addition, the AHSM will participate in the yearly performance review of assigned staff, disciplinary actions, hiring and onboarding.

This position requires the ability to perform the following minimal physical requirements: move freely, lift up to 40 lbs, carry, manipulate tools and objects as needed for patient care. Full details available on the position description upon request.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 50-11 with a starting pay of $59.36/hour - $63.11/hour . Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

This position is not eligible for remote work.

Anticipated schedule will be Monday - Friday 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM. Some flexibility in start time may be available. This position is FLSA Exempt.

This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Special Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain an active unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience providing direct nursing care to patients
  • Experience in a leadership type role such as a Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader
  • Experience in providing education to staff and/or patients
