About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Executive Director, to provide expert legal support to the firm's Fraud & Claims Management organization and serve as a senior legal advisor for the firm's enterprise fraud and scam strategy.

In this role, you will:

  • Advise senior leadership across Operations, Product, Government Relations and Public Policy, Independent Risk Management, and Legal on fraud and scam prevention strategy, payment system risks, regulatory expectations, litigation/enforcement trends, and emerging legislation.
  • Serve as a senior legal advisor for enterprise fraud and scam strategy, including legal risk assessment, issue escalation, and coordination with product-specific Legal subject-matter experts.
  • Handle matters that have a significant impact on the Company's operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the Company in external fraud and scam strategy forums, including trade associations, industry working groups, regulatory engagements, and cross-sector partnerships.
  • Help guide advocacy positions and priorities on legislative activities, payment-system rules, and cross-sector engagements.
  • Provide expert-level legal support for fraud operations initiatives, including analysis of emerging trends, AI/ML-enabled fraud detection, customer education and intervention strategies, payment network developments, and cross-industry partnerships.
  • Coordinate and deliver executive-level legal analysis, presentations, and strategic communications for regulators, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and senior Legal and business leadership regarding fraud, scams, payment systems, and fraud risk management.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as a practicing attorney advising executive business leaders on evolving legal, regulatory, legislative, and industry developments.
  • Significant knowledge and experience covering consumer banking laws, payment systems, and operations strategies at a major law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Experience with relevant U.S. laws, rules, and regulations, including UCC Articles 3, 4, 4A; Regulations E, Z, and CC; FCRA; UDAAP; and other consumer protection laws.
  • Experience providing legal advice and support in connection with risk and regulatory issues within large, matrixed organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fraud and scam trends, prevention strategies, and risks.
  • Demonstrated experience representing organizations in industry trade associations, policy forums, legislative advocacy initiatives, or regulatory engagement activities.
  • Experience supporting litigation matters.
  • Strong process and project management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level presentations, legal analyses, and strategic communications for senior business and Legal leadership.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and provide integrated business advice while effectively managing legal risk.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Job Expectations:

  • Position will require onsite presence from any of the required locations listed.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule, in office at least 3 days a week.
  • This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$215,000.00 - $355,000.00
