Full Job Description
The Town of Hamden is seeking a highly qualified, self-motivated, goal oriented Assistant Fire Chief. The Assistant Fire Chief is a highly responsible position assisting the Fire Chief in planning, directing and supervising the department and its personnel in all areas of administration, fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical services and coordination of Volunteer Fire Companies.

Coordinates all activities of the Fire Department in responding to disasters including naturally or man-made events, hazardous waste spill, explosions, etc. Determines plan of action of fire companies responding to fire, hazardous materials incidents and special rescue calls. Responds to emergency incidents as a senior command officer. Performs complex tasks required for successful management of fires, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters and complex rescue situation.

Requirements:

Successful candidates for this position will possess a minimum of (10) ten years full-time experience with a paid professional fire department, with at least (7) years in the position of a career company fire officer (fire captain or above preferred) that demonstrates the required knowledge abilities, behaviors, and traits to perform the essential job functions. A Bachelor's degree in Fire Technology or Fire Administration or other closely related field of study is preferred.

License or Certificate: A Connecticut Class Il (Q Restriction) license is required. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by the Connecticut State Office of Emergency Medical Services acquired during tenure as a Certified Fire Fighter. Certification as a Fire Marshal in accordance with C.G.S., Section 29-298a is desirable.
