Full Job Description
Job Overview: The Assistant Director of People Services supports the People Services function of the hotel, including budget, planning, hiring, leadership, and the effective operation of the department. This role assists the Director of People Services in implementing HR strategy for Equinox Hotels and is responsible for ensuring that all hotel departments adhere to employment protocols and remain compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws, including all Collective Bargaining Agreements ("CBAs").

Reports To: Director of People Services

Key Relationships:

Internal: All team members and 3rd party contractors.

External: Hotel guests/visitors, other hotel personnel, and vendors/suppliers.

Essential Job Functions:

People Services Strategy & Compliance

  • Supports the People Services strategy to effectively optimize all aspects of employment, benefits, compensation, learning, development, and performance management for all team members.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures, benefits policies and procedures, and state, federal, and local laws, including EEO-1, FLSA, OSHA, and Workers' Compensation; stays abreast of changes in employment law at all levels.
  • Prepares appropriate reports relative to the People Services function.
  • Maintains general People Services information, including organization charts, visa information, I-9 records, job descriptions, wage and salary information, and grievances.


Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Engages in staffing and recruitment activities, working across all hotel departments; coordinates interviews, arranges travel schedules, and administers the new hire process, background checks, onboarding, and HR administration for all levels.


Team Member Relations & Culture

  • Provides counsel and assistance to management personnel regarding team member issues related to policy, culture, and leadership.
  • Conducts team member disciplinary and harassment investigations as directed by the Director of People Services, thoroughly documenting issues, timelines, concerns, and relevant facts; maintains confidentiality and makes recommendations for action.
  • Conducts exit interviews for departing team members and ensures final clearance and paycheck distribution; shares exit interview information as appropriate with the Director of People Services and company leaders.
  • Maintains team member relations programs to support morale and culture.


Labor & Union Relations

  • Handles monthly union reporting and maintains department records related to Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Handles union team members' grievances and interacts with the union delegates and business agents on all requests and concerns.


Leadership & Representation

  • Attends all required leadership meetings, ensuring the People Services function is well represented at all times.
  • Complies with all Work Rules, Safety Standards, and Standards of Conduct as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
  • May be assigned other duties at the discretion of the Director of People Services.


Qualifications/Skills:

Experience & Education

  • 3+ years of experience as an Assistant Director of Human Resources or Senior Human Resources Manager in a luxury hotel required.
  • NYC union experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Strong computer skills required; HRIS systems knowledge helpful.
  • Working knowledge of wage and salary administration, employment and benefits administration, and payroll.
  • Working knowledge of state, federal, and local leave laws as they pertain to the People Services function.
  • Knowledgeable about relevant state, federal, and local employment law, with experience making decisions that ensure organizational compliance.

Essential Physical Abilities

  • Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
  • Ability to grasp, bend, stoop, lift, push, or pull heavy loads, and to lift, carry, or otherwise move materials weighing up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
