Full Job Description
The Assistant Director of HR is a strategic, organized, and service-driven leader with a strong foundation in HR. Responsible for providing day-to-day leadership of the HR Department, the Assistant Director partners closely with the Director of HR to ensure operational excellence, exceptional employee support, and the effective execution of the Club's HR strategies and initiatives. The position requires exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to listen, assess needs, and deliver thoughtful, people-centered solutions.
  • Oversees all aspects of the HR Department with the support of the HR Generalist and HR Coordinator
  • Assists in the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures, and administrative processes to enhance operational efficiency, ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations, and improve overall service delivery
  • Directs and oversees employee investigations, providing guidance and recommendations to the HR Director while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, employment laws, and best practices
  • Oversees the administration, functionality, and optimization of HR Information Systems (HRIS) and related HR technologies
  • Researches, analyzes, and interprets HR data, trends, and regulatory developments to develop recommendations and prepare reports that support informed decision-making
  • Advises managers, supervisors, and employees on Club policies, employment practices, collective bargaining agreements, and federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Oversees the administration of employee benefits programs and serves as a knowledgeable resource on benefits policies and procedures
  • Administers and promotes the Jonathan Club Scholarship Fund program for eligible employees and their dependents
  • Maintains current knowledge of HR best practices, employment legislation, and industry trends through professional development, seminars, workshops, and continuing education
  • Models and promotes a culture of professionalism, empathy, respect, and exceptional service in all interactions with employees, members, and colleagues
  • Manages and provides leadership, guidance, and support to the HR Generalist, ensuring effective execution of HR programs, policies, and daily operations
  • Visits the Beach Club in Santa Monica, CA based on business needs and participates in Manager on Duty program that includes evenings and weekends

Qualifications
  • Proven background in HR management or HR department leadership, with a strong understanding of employment law, labor regulations, and HR compliance requirements
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, diplomacy, and discretion while maintaining a calm, professional, and solutions-oriented approach in complex or sensitive situations
  • Experience supporting a unionized workforce and interpreting collective bargaining agreements is highly desirable
  • Skilled in HRIS system administration, including system updates, data integrity management, configuration changes, and process enhancements
  • Demonstrated capacity to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple projects concurrently, and deliver results in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, verbal, and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, including the ability to speak, translate, and write, is a plus
  • Salary is $100,000 to $115,000 plus a discretionary bonus
