Pay Grade: 14

Salary: $90,000 - $95,000

Other Forms of Compensation:

Morrison Living is seeking an exceptional Assistant Director of Dining Services to join our leadership team at The Tamalpais, a premier senior living community located in one of Marin County's most spectacular settings.

This is more than a dining management position. It is an opportunity to bring the standards, energy, and personalized service of luxury hospitality into a community where dining is an important part of everyday life.

At The Tamalpais, our residents aren't simply guests who visit once-they are people we have the privilege of serving every day. That creates an opportunity to take hospitality to another level: learning preferences, anticipating needs, building relationships, celebrating special moments, and creating dining experiences residents genuinely look forward to.

The Assistant Director of Dining Services will be a highly visible hospitality leader responsible for helping drive exceptional front-of-house service, resident satisfaction, team development, and operational excellence.

Most importantly, this is a floor-focused leadership position. During meal periods, the Assistant Director is expected to be present and actively engaged in the dining rooms-leading service, interacting with residents, coaching associates, resolving concerns, and ensuring our hospitality standards are consistently delivered.

If your passion is being where the hospitality happens, this role is designed for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a visible and active leader on the dining room floor during meal periods, supporting the team and ensuring an exceptional resident experience.
  • Create a culture of genuine hospitality built around warmth, recognition, personalization, and attention to detail.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with residents and learn their preferences, expectations, and individual dining needs.
  • Anticipate resident needs and identify opportunities to create memorable and unexpected moments of hospitality.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop front-of-house associates through hands-on leadership and real-time feedback.
  • Establish and maintain polished service standards comparable to those found in upscale restaurants, hotels, clubs, and luxury hospitality environments.
  • Conduct pre-service meetings and ensure teams are prepared, informed, and energized before each meal period.
  • Work closely with the Director of Dining Services, Executive Chef, and culinary leadership to ensure seamless coordination between the kitchen and dining room.
  • Monitor the pace and flow of service and proactively address challenges before they impact the resident experience.
  • Respond to resident feedback with professionalism, urgency, empathy, and appropriate follow-through.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, training, performance management, and associate development.
  • Help drive resident satisfaction, participation, and engagement through special events, celebrations, and creative dining experiences.
  • Maintain strong operational standards related to labor, productivity, sanitation, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support financial performance and operational goals while never losing sight of the hospitality experience.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, inclusion, continuous improvement, and fun.

The Leader We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who loves hospitality and loves being on the floor.

The ideal candidate understands that exceptional service isn't managed from behind a desk. They naturally gravitate toward the dining room-greeting residents, observing service, helping the team, noticing details, and making sure every meal period feels welcoming and well executed.

You may come from luxury hotels, fine dining, private clubs, resorts, upscale restaurants, senior living, or another high-touch hospitality environment. Senior living experience is valuable, but a genuine hospitality mindset and the ability to lead people are equally important.

You should be comfortable balancing polished service with the warmth and relationships that make senior living hospitality unique.

Qualifications
  • Proven leadership experience in restaurants, hotels, private clubs, senior living, resorts, or another hospitality-focused environment.
  • Strong front-of-house operational and service experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop service teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A natural ability to connect with residents, families, associates, and community leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operation.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling, labor management, service standards, safety, sanitation, and operational controls.
  • Experience in luxury or high-end hospitality is highly valued.
  • Senior living experience is preferred but not required for candidates with strong hospitality leadership backgrounds.

An Opportunity to Grow

Morrison Living is part of Compass Group, one of the world's leading foodservice and hospitality organizations.

For the right hospitality leader, this position can be much more than the next job. It can be an opportunity to build experience in a sophisticated dining operation, develop as a leader, and create a pathway toward future Director of Dining Services and broader leadership opportunities within Morrison Living and Compass Group.

We are looking for someone who wants to grow with us-and who believes that some of the best hospitality in the industry can happen in senior living.

Bring your hospitality experience. Bring your leadership. Bring your personality.
