Annual Salary: $73,427.35 - $89,358.40
Employment Status: Indeterminate Full-time position

Language Requirement: English and/or French

Schedule: 37.50 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Work Environment: This position operates in a hybrid work environment and requires onsite presence a minimum of three (3) days per week.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to and directed by the assigned Curator or Director, Curatorial Division, Ingenium - Canada's Museums of Science and Innovations, the Curatorial Research Assistant assists in implementing the development of Ingenium's collection; conducts research that informs knowledge about, documentation of, and interpretation of specific subject areas; assists the Curator in the development of exhibitions, digital products, and public facing knowledge mobilization opportunities; and performs other duties such as retrieving artifacts for study, presenting papers at conferences and seminars, and liaising with staff in other museums and institutions.

EDUCATION

  • A bachelor's degree in history, public history, history of science and technology, digital humanities, museum studies, science, engineering, or a degree related to Ingenium's collection subject areas.


EXPERIENCE

  • 1 to 2 years' experience related to museums of science and technology
  • OR an acceptable combination of education and experience in curatorial practice, historical research, material culture methodologies, and oral history


KNOWLEDGE

  • Broad knowledge of the history of Canadian science and technology;
  • Knowledge of sources of historical and technical information;
  • Knowledge of oral history techniques;
  • Knowledge of museum collection development processes and research.


COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to research, learn, plan, organize workflow to achieve best results;
  • Ability to search through a wide variety of material and to compile technical information in support of the development and documentation of the collection;
  • Skill in synthesizing data from a variety of information and sources;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with colleagues, staff of other institutions and members of the public.
