Full Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our Finance team. The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, managing the month-end close process, maintaining internal controls, supporting audits, and providing leadership to the accounting team. You will serve as a key business partner across departments and help drive process improvements and financial discipline throughout the organization. Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC. Meaningful work you will be a part of Your responsibilities will be to: Accounting Operations Provide oversight of general ledger accounting activities. Manage balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items. Provide supporting oversight of accounts payable, sales and accounts receivable, fixed assets, and inventory processes. Maintain accounting records and ensure data integrity within ERP systems. Financial Close Process Support the month-end and year-end close processes. Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Analyze financial results and contribute to analyses of variances to forecast and prior periods. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and company policies. Audit & External Reporting Support external audit activities. Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. Respond to auditor inquiries and assist with issue resolution. Support tax filings and compliance requirements as needed. Budgeting & Forecasting Partner with FP&A team to provide financial analysis and insights. Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes. Support financial planning initiatives and management reporting requirements. Leadership & Process Improvement Supervise and mentor accounting staff. Review team output for accuracy and completeness. Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability. Support ERP enhancements, reporting automation, and other finance transformation initiatives. You will be successful in this role because you possess these attributes: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional designation preferred. 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with experience in a manufacturing or regulated industry and experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotech environments strongly preferred. Prior supervisory or team leadership in operational setting experience preferred. Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Continuous improvement mindset and ability to drive change. A proactive mindset and enthusiasm for finding innovative solutions to challenges. Compensation Kardium has listed the total cash compensation range (base salary + 5% Retirement Savings contribution) that we expect to pay applicants for this role, as of the time of this posting. Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. For candidates with more or less experience than listed above, the pay range will be adjusted. As a permanent employee, you will also participate in Kardium's stock option plan. $95,000 - $125,000 (CAD Annually) Your Benefits & Well-being Total cash - the total cash we've listed for this position includes a base salary, plus a contribution to a Retirement Savings plan to help support your financial goals.
