About the Role

We are looking for an Assistant Controller to join our Finance team and help strengthen the accounting foundation behind HealthOne's continued growth. Reporting to the VP Finance, this role will provide hands-on leadership across day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, balance sheet review, audit readiness, cash controls, team development, and scalable process improvement.

This role is well suited to someone who is prepared to roll up their sleeves and ensure the accounting function operates to a high standard every day, with tight controls, strong documentation, reliable review practices, and a clear focus on quality and assurance of work.

The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Accounting Manager, AP & Finance Operations Specialist, and VP Finance to support reliable reporting, review engagement readiness, lender compliance reporting, management reporting, MD&A reporting, expansion planning, working capital management, tax compliance, and ongoing finance transformation initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a CPA-designated accounting professional with strong technical judgment, multi-entity experience, balance sheet discipline, and a practical approach to developing people and scalable accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting
  • Own the quality, timing, and execution of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
  • Review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, working papers, balance sheet schedules, and final close adjustments.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and well-supported financial reporting across HealthOne's multi-entity operating environment.
  • Maintain tight accounting controls, clear documentation, reliable review practices, and strong quality assurance over accounting outputs.
  • Support management reporting, MD&A reporting, variance analysis, and faster insight generation for operational and executive decision-making.
  • Help shorten the annual reporting cycle by improving close discipline, working paper quality, and readiness of year-end support.
  • Cash Management, Audit & Compliance
  • Oversee day-to-day cash management, bank balance monitoring, intercompany funding, short-term liquidity reporting, and working capital controls.
  • Support lender reporting preparation, covenant monitoring, weekly cash reporting, compliance reporting, and related schedules.
  • Lead review and compilation engagement preparation across a multi-entity operating environment and act as a key liaison with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors.
  • Coordinate HST, corporate tax, CRA account monitoring, and other compliance requirements, ensuring support schedules and documentation are complete and review-ready.
  • Support CRA balance reduction initiatives, tax efficiency, compliance discipline, and reportingrequiredto shorten the annual reporting cycle.

Process Improvement & Systems
  • Improve close timelines, reporting accuracy, workflow efficiency, documentation, templates, and controls.
  • Help complete the NetSuite implementation and transition the finance team to full adoption.
  • Support NetSuite optimization, including close workflows, reporting consistency, chart of accounts discipline, bank feeds, AP coding, data quality controls, sandbox testing, and business unit reporting.
  • Assist with corporate simplification and entity consolidation initiatives to reduce administrative burden across corporate records, financial statements, CRA accounts, and compliance requirements.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Directly manage, coach, and support a small, high-performing team.
  • Set clear priorities, accountability, role clarity, and performance standards across the accounting team.
  • Invest in team capability across taxation, financial reporting, internal controls, workflow automation, faster analysis and insights, working capital, and treasury management.
  • Build a culture of ownership, accuracy, continuous improvement, tight controls, and professional development.

Qualifications and Skills
  • CPA designation required.
  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including senior accounting, controllership, or comparable finance leadership experience.
  • Experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, review engagement preparation, audit readiness, working paper review, and balance sheet controls.
  • Multi-entity accounting experience strongly preferred, ideally in a multi-location operating environment.
  • Experience working with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and lender reporting requirements.
  • NetSuite implementation, optimization, or ERP adoption experience considered a strong asset.
  • Strong Excel, reporting, process improvement, automation, documentation, and management reporting skills; experience using AI tools to improve finance workflows is considered an asset.
