Full Job Description
The Assistant Controller supports the financial operations of Aurubis Richmond ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective cost management. This role partners closely with plant leadership and operations teams to analyze production costs, monitor inventory, and drive financial performance.

Key responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day accounting activities, assisting with month-end close, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, and supporting the preparation of financial statements. The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in cost accounting, including standard cost maintenance, variance analysis, and inventory valuation. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with a hands-on understanding of manufacturing operations and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
Assistant Controller

Your Tasks

Execute month-end/quarter-end/year-end close and deliver accurate site results

Prepare/review entries, reconciliations, and key close schedules

Maintain IFRS/policy compliance and close discipline

Support audits; prepare support schedules and variance/root-cause explanations for Controller review

Escalate risks, issues, and unusual trends early; recommend corrective actions

Systems & automation

Maintain/optimize SAP processes and master data to support reporting accuracy

Build and refresh dashboards/standard reports used in performance reviews

Implement automation/AI improvements as part of the Controller's modernization roadmap

Improve close and cost-accounting processes (cycle time, accuracy, rework)

Planning & analysis

Provide site inputs for annual budget and rolling forecasts

Analyze performance vs. plan; prepare variance drivers and actions for Controller/ops reviews

Track site capex and support ROI models and reporting

Controls & compliance

Execute and document controls over reporting and inventory; remediate gaps

Ensure site compliance with policy and regulatory requirements

Document/standardize processes to ensure repeatable, audit-ready execution

Your Profile

Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or related degree.

5+ years of accounting experience, including manufacturing or cost accounting

Strong knowledge of GAAP, month-end close, and internal controls

SAP or similar ERP experience required

Advanced Excel skills; experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools

Experience with standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory management

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement mindset (automation/AI a plus)

Effective communicator able to partner with operations and explain financial insights

Self-driven, organized, and able to perform in a fast-paced environment

Must be willing and physically able to observe and walk in a smelter environment.

Must be willing and physically able to work in varying cold and heat situations.

Could have times that are prolonged periods of walking, standing, and bending.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Ability to travel throughout the facility as required to conduct audits and make observations.

Must wear all required PPE when in protected areas.

Required to reach and grasp with hands and reach with arms.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Willing and physically able to travel domestically and/or internationally if requested.
