Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to facilitate the Division's investigative operations by overseeing an investigative workgroup of several employees and to conduct investigations into allegations of insurance fraud. This position is responsible for the implementation of administrative and supervisory procedures and adherence thereto by their subordinates while maintaining their own investigative caseloads.

POSITION DUTIES

The MIA's Insurance Fraud and Producer Enforcement Division is seeking an internal candidate to fill an Assistant Chief of Civil Fraud position. This position facilities the Division's investigative operations by overseeing an investigative workgroup of several employees and conducting investigations into allegations of insurance fraud. This position is responsible for the implementation of administrative and supervisory procedures and adherence thereto by their subordinates while maintaining their own investigative caseloads.

The Assistant Chief of Civil Fraud reviews, evaluates, directs, trains and assists investigators to ensure adherence to standard procedures and policies of the MIA and the Fraud Division and completion of work product. The Assistant Chief also maintains their own investigative caseload, prepares detailed reports, applications for statement of charges, and completes case booklets. The Assistant Chief of Civil Fraud works closely with the Office of the Attorneys General, Special Investigation Units, and law enforcement agencies to determine criminality of events for further investigation consistent with the Laws of Evidence, Maryland Criminal Codes and any divisional directives and procedures. This position is required to travel Statewide as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Seven years of experience conducting investigations of fraud, financial crimes or other civil or criminal misconduct matters; or seven years of experience reviewing and analyzing financial documents for investigative purposes. Two years of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Note: Additional experience conducting investigations of fraud, financial crimes or other civil or criminal misconduct matters, or reviewing and analyzing financial documents for investigative purposes may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education. Two years of this experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.
