Description:
The Department of Anesthesia and Pain Management at Sinai Health (SH) is seeking a staff anesthesiologist for the position of Deputy Site Head of Anesthesia at Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH). The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date will be July 1, 2027, or one which is mutually agreed upon.
Mount Sinai (442 beds) is an acute care hospital and home to the largest high-risk obstetric center in Canada. Surgical services include general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology, urology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, dentistry, orthopedics, and ophthalmology. All surgical programs have significant oncology components. Opportunities for practice in acute and chronic pain are also available.
The Deputy Site Head will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the clinical and academic department. The Deputy Site Head will also be an integral member of the departmental and institutional leadership teams, as well as the Practice Plan Executive Committee. As such, the incumbent will be involved in developing departmental strategies and aligning the site's activities with these strategies. The successful candidate will receive 1-day per week protected time for these administrative duties. Additional protected time will be provided according to a merit-based system for educational and research activities. The successful candidate will provide anesthetic care throughout the SHS clinical programs. Clinical supervision and teaching of students, residents, and fellows is expected. On-call services will be provided in rotation.
The successful candidate must have proven leadership and clinical skills and evidence of demonstrated excellence in education or research. The successful candidate must have a medical degree, postgraduate fellowship training, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in anesthesia (or equivalent), and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Compensation for clinical activities will be based on clinical billings through the practice plan depending on the amount of clinical and administrative/academic work performed; compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and within the usual range for an anesthesiologist in the Province of Ontario, which exceeds $200,000 CAD per annum.
