OverviewThe Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Structural Engineering beginning in Fall 2027. Candidates should demonstrate research and teaching interests aligned with structural engineering and that complement existing departmental strengths and resources.
Department and Institution Information:The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has 26 tenured/tenure-track faculty, approximately 700 undergraduates, and 140 graduate students, and offers B.C.E., M.S., M.C.E., and Ph.D. degrees. Structural engineering faculty have excellent opportunities for funded research through the Highway Research Center and collaboration with the Alabama Department of Transportation, in addition to industry, state agencies, and federal agencies. Faculty have also been highly successful in leveraging the state-of-the-art testing capabilities of the 42,000 ft2 Advanced Structural Engineering Laboratory. Auburn University is a land-grant, Carnegie R1 institution located in east-central Alabama with a total enrollment of over 35,000 students.
ResponsibilitiesThe selected faculty member will be expected to:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering.
- Develop and sustain an externally funded research program in structural engineering.
- Mentor and advise graduate students in their academic and research endeavors.
- Engage in service activities at the departmental, university, and professional levels.
QualificationsApplicants must hold a Ph.D. in structural engineering at the time of employment. The selected candidate must be eligible to work in the United States at the time the appointment begins and must maintain work authorization throughout the term of employment. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
