What We Are Looking For

Baylor University is seeking an Assistant or Associate Director of the Baylor Cleanroom to assist in advancing the facility's strategic vision while overseeing its daily scientific, technical, and administrative operations. This position manages and supervises Baylor's Cleanroom and its instrumentation, develops and maintains SOPs, and provides training and technical support to faculty, students, and researchers. The Assistant/Associate Director is responsible for the operation, development, maintenance, troubleshooting, and user training of advanced microfabrication equipment, including but not limited to E-beam lithography system, ICP etching, PECVD, and different deposition systems. Working closely with academic departments, colleges, students, faculty, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the Assistant/Associate Director helps ensure the Cleanroom's continued growth and supports high-impact research across the university.

Baylor reserves the right to hire into the Assistant Director or Associate Director classification.

A Master's degree and three years of relevant work experience are required. A Doctoral degree and five years of relevant experience are preferred.

All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

What You Will Do
  • Oversee cleanroom instrumentation and equipment operations
  • Provide user training and technical support
  • Maintain accurate records of instrument usage
  • Collaborate with faculty and students to develop and implement new methods and techniques
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility instrumentation and equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Train, supervise, and provide technical support to cleanroom users on advanced microfabrication and characterization systems, including electron-beam lithography (E-Beam), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), and thin-film deposition equipment
  • Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students in the development, optimization, and application of specialized fabrication processes and technologies, ensuring safe operation, effective use of instrumentation, and successful research outcomes
  • Develop, implement, and manage policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) governing cleanroom operations, facility access, equipment usage, and user training
  • Oversee day-to-day cleanroom activities to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the facility
  • Ensure adherence to University health, safety, and environmental standards by maintaining required documentation, conducting inspections, monitoring compliance, and administering all records, training certifications, and safety protocols necessary to meet institutional and regulatory requirements
  • Assist in the development and execution of the Baylor Cleanroom's strategic plans, mission, and vision to support research, education, and service objectives
  • Contribute to the planning and expansion of facility capabilities, resources, and user programs to enhance operational effectiveness and research impact
  • Assist in providing supervision, mentorship, and guidance to cleanroom staff and student employees, supporting workforce development, training, performance management, and the delivery of high-quality facility services
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
  • Ability to comply with university policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
