The Opportunity:

Canadian Natural has an exciting permanent opportunity for a Surface Land Area Administrator to join the Calgary Land team, providing essential surface land administration support for projects across operating areas. This role ensures that surface agreements, payments, and compliance obligations are accurately maintained, reflecting CNRL's commitment to "Doing It Right" through professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with Land Agents, Operations, Accounting, Regulatory teams, and external stakeholders to support uninterrupted surface access and positive landowner relationships. This role calls for a reliable, adaptable professional with a strong work ethic, clear communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative, improvement-focused mindset.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Administer and maintain surface land agreements including Surface Leases, Rights of Way, Temporary Work Space, and road/access agreements, and third-party agreements, ensuring files are accurate, complete, and well-organized in both electronic and physical formats
  • Accurate maintenance of surface land information in CNRL land systems and databases, including registrations, notices, amendments, renewals, and expiries, while completing required weekly and monthly reports and obligations
  • Process and coordinate annual rental payments and compensation in accordance with agreement terms, working closely with Accounts Payable to resolve discrepancies and respond to landowner and vendor inquiries
  • Support capital, maintenance, integrity, and operational projects by providing land status information, tracking surface access timing, and assisting internal teams with planning and execution requirements
  • Act as a point of contact for landowners, Land Agents, lawyers, Crown agencies, and service companies, responding to inquiries in a timely manner and contributing to meetings as required
  • Perform all duties with a high degree of accuracy, integrity, and professionalism while meeting deadlines, supporting audits, acquisitions, divestments, reclamation tracking, continuous improvement initiatives, and contributing positively to a team environment

What You Bring to the Role:
  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years of industry related Surface Land experience
  • An Energy Asset Management Diploma, Petroleum Land / Land Analyst Certificate or similar is considered a strong asset
  • A practical working knowledge of Rules, Acts, Directives, etc.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills
  • A self-starter who takes initiative to learn and grow
