Job Summary:The Area EHS Manager is responsible for providing leadership and expertise in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses across assigned branches and job sites. This role partners with branch and field management to implement effective safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a strong safety culture. The position involves hazard identification, program development, compliance oversight, training, and incident investigation, while ensuring adherence to OSHA, DOT, MSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices, and develop and implement effective hazard control programs.
- Administer, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and hazard mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate and document safety training for employees, supervisors, and temporary workers; conduct safety meetings and ongoing training programs.
- Perform branch and job site inspections and observations to identify hazards and ensure compliance, including climbing scaffolds and entering confined spaces when required.
- Coach and guide employees and management on safety compliance, safe work practices, and proper product applications.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, DOT, MSHA, EPA, and NFPA.
- Interface with customers and site EHS personnel to support safety initiatives and resolve safety concerns.
- Investigate incidents and accidents, ensuring thorough documentation, root cause analysis, and preservation of evidence.
- Support workers' compensation and return-to-work programs in coordination with medical providers and Risk Management.
- Carry out managerial responsibilities including overseeing safety programs, administering safety incentive initiatives, and managing emergency response procedures.
- Approve and oversee procurement of safety equipment for job sites and branches.
- Provide leadership and direction to Site Safety Professionals, promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree, associate's degree in occupational safety, or professional certification (BCSP) in EHS, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of field EHS experience required.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (or higher); HAS or equivalent certification preferred.
- Ability to travel approximately 5-10%.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and coach employees at all levels.
- Experience developing and implementing site-level EHS plans aligned with corporate programs.
- Excellent communication skills, including training, presentation, and written documentation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Advanced knowledge of construction and general industry safety regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements effectively.
