About the Role:

As the Area Controller, you will be the financial leader for your Area and a strategic partner to the Area Finance Director. This is not just about the numbers, it is about shaping insights that drive business decisions, building a culture of continuous improvement, and leading a high-performing team. You will oversee accounting operations, ensure compliance and champion process innovation to deliver real business impact.

What you will do:
  • Own the month-end close process and ensure accurate timely reporting, we close the books in 5 days. Get into the details on revenue, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, property, operating expenses to name a few.
  • Drives adherence to GAAP and internal policies while strengthening financial controls.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement, encouraging the delivery of business insights over report creation, freeing time for value-added work.
  • Lead system implementations for new sites and manage change initiatives driven by corporate directives.
  • Oversee integration of acquisitions, ensuring smooth financial and operational alignment.
  • Supervises and participates in the preparation of various financial statements and reports. Ensures integrity and quality of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and Company policies.
  • Responsible for review of monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations and completion of monthly Area Balance Sheet analysis.
  • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality and timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Build, develop and mentor a diverse, high performing accounting team. Direct supervision of 7-10 employees including full-time accountants.
  • Serve as the go-to expert for audits, SOX compliance, GAAP, and Area-specific Municipal or other contract accounting requirements.
  • Partner with operations to understand and deliver actional insights.

What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA is desirable.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience; ideally with a public company or public accounting exposure
  • Strong Technical expertise in GAAP, SOX and financial systems.
  • Proven leadership skills, able to inspire, coach, and develop talent
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to simplify complexity and communicate clearly
  • Comfortable navigating fast-paced environments and shifting priorities
  • Ability to travel up to 10% and work flexibly during peak periods
  • Deep knowledge of the monthly accounting cycle, financial systems, and best practices
  • Proven experience in developing and analyzing financial statements
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with executive presence
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams
  • Adaptable and resilient-comfortable with change, ambiguity, and steep learning curves
  • Demonstrated leadership through different business cycles and operational challenges

  • Willingness to travel (up to 10%) and work flexibly during peak periods

The expected base pay range for this hybrid position is $113,400 - $169,510. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for bonus. This position is for an existing vacancy.
