What will you do?

Siemens Digital Industries is looking for a highly skilled and motivated pre-sales Application Engineer / Specialist to join our Sales Acceleration Team. As a key contributor, you will support the growth of Siemens factory automation, industrial control, Ruggedcom products and solutions across Canada.

In this customer-facing role, you will work closely with the field sales organization and strategic partners to provide expert technical guidance, develop automation architectures, and support customers throughout the entire sales lifecycle.

Technical Expertise & Customer Support
  • Serve as the technical expert for industrial networking and automation solutions in Canada.
  • Support Siemens Ruggedcom Ethernet network portfolio - switches, routers, serial servers, network management systems, cyber security solutions and wireless products.
  • Analyze customer requirements and develop proof-of-concept system architectures and recommend suitable products
  • Provide advanced technical support, including on-site troubleshooting, system optimization, and commissioning assistance.
  • Provide technical presales consulting for the Ruggedcom product suite and key industries Electric Power, Transportation, and Oil & Gas, working together with Siemens resources and customers globally.
  • Provide Ethernet network designs, responses to RFP's and RFI's, proof of concepts, communication, and cyber security solutions for large-scale projects.
  • Be part of the HQ and center of competence technical presales group responding to requests of key customers, sales force, and Field Application Consultants.
  • Support customers and sales force at customer presentations, demos, fairs - onsite and worldwide.
  • Prepare and deliver technical proposals, demos, and prototype solutions.

Solution Development & Implementation
  • Collaborate with Siemens Sales, authorized distributors, and Solution Partners to demonstrate Siemens automation technologies.
  • Size and design automation solutions based on specific application requirements.
  • Influence customers and integrators on effective utilization of Ruggedcom / SIMATIC products.
  • Develop sales enablement materials, demo programs, and application notes/white papers.
  • Support Product Marketing with launches, seminars, workshops, and customer events.

Knowledge Transfer & Collaboration
  • Deliver technical training and knowledge transfer to customers, Siemens teams, and channel partners.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and best-practice guidance to engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with Siemens HQ and Competence Centres for complex project requirements.

What will you need to succeed?
  • Diploma / Bachelor's / master's degree in Electrical, Computer, Computer Science, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience
  • Working knowledge of configuring, implementing, proof of concept, troubleshooting, testing and design of the following Data networking and wireless technologies: TCP/IP, Ethernet, VLANs, VPN/Firewalls/Cyber Security; Routing protocols - OSPF (Strong), BGP, RIP, VRRP; Network Security - Firewalls, IDS, SSL/TLS, PKI; T1/T3, DSL, VoIP, RSTP/Spanning Tree
  • Testing equipment - sniffers/protocol analyzers/traffic generators
  • Network Management Systems
  • Wireless WiFi technologies: 802.11a/b/g/n, WiMAX
  • Cybersecurity technology an asset (e.g. next generation firewalls, intrusion detection, data diodes)
  • Cisco certifications or other vendor certifications: CCNA, CCNP, Security Certifications are a plus.
  • Experience in providing solutions and application consulting
  • Experience in the Electrical Power Utility, Transportation and/or Oil & Gas Industry
  • Demonstrated self-starter with excellent communication skills acting as customer interface while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent internetworking experience, consulting and presentation skills and the ability to handle complex and time-critical inquiries.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial automation platforms and networks.
  • PLC or software programming experience (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, STL, C++, JavaScript, Visual Basic, etc.).
  • Experience working with OEMs or system integrators.
  • Bilingual English & French considered an asset
  • Ability to travel nationally on short notice up to 25%
[Salary is commensurate with experience, and ranges between $ 90,000.00 CAD - $ 120,000.00 CAD, excluding bonus and benefits. In addition to base salary, this role includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus ranging from 10% to 18% of base salary, based on Company performance metrics.]
