Job Description

About The Role

We are seeking an API Product Manager with 1-3 years of product management experience, including direct API product management experience, to own the developer experience across our API products-from discovery and access through onboarding, testing, production launch, and ongoing adoption. This is a full-time individual contributor role.

The APIs offered by VantageScore serve external developers, enterprise customers, data partners, and internal teams. You will partner closely with Engineering, Design, Customer Success, Support, Security, Legal/Compliance, and GTM teams to deliver complete documentation, intuitive self-service workflows, dependable sandbox and testing environments, consistent API behavior, and actionable error handling.

Success in this role will be reflected in lower integration friction, reduced long-term support costs, stronger product adoption and retention, and improved developer and customer NPS.

Location Requirements
  • This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week onsite in South San Francisco. Candidates must live within approximately one hour of the office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end developer onboarding and self-service integration workflows for external developers, enterprise customers, data partners, and internal teams, including access requests, credentials, authentication, first successful API call, testing, production readiness, launch, and ongoing adoption.
  • Define and maintain the product strategy, roadmap, and prioritized backlog for API and developer-experience capabilities, balancing customer value, business impact, technical feasibility, reliability, and risk.
  • Create, maintain, and continuously improve API documentation, quick-start guides, tutorials, code samples, reference content, FAQs, release notes, changelogs, and migration guidance.
  • Partner with Engineering to build and operate sandbox environments, test data, mock services, API explorers, and other self-service integration and validation tools.
  • Establish and promote API product standards for resource naming, schemas, authentication, pagination, rate limits, idempotency, versioning, backward compatibility, deprecation, and error responses.
  • Ensure documentation completeness and API consistency by embedding documentation, developer-usability, and error-handling reviews into the product development and release process.
  • Monitor the developer journey and relevant product signals-including onboarding completion, usage, error patterns, support contacts, retention, and NPS-to identify friction and prioritize improvements.
  • Analyze support tickets, developer feedback, documentation searches, usage patterns, and failure data to identify friction, prioritize improvements, and reduce long-term support costs.
  • Lead research and usability testing with external developers, enterprise customers, data partners, and internal API consumers; translate findings into clear requirements, acceptance criteria, and outcomes.
  • Coordinate API launches and changes across Engineering, Support, Customer Success, Sales, Marketing, Security, and Compliance, including release communications and migration readiness.
  • Serve as the voice of external developers, enterprise customers, data partners, and internal API consumers while communicating product decisions, tradeoffs, risks, and progress to leadership and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of product management experience.
  • Direct API product management experience, including ownership of API products, platform capabilities, integration workflows, or developer facing experiences.
  • Experience owning or improving developer onboarding, self-service integration, API documentation, sandbox or testing experiences, or related developer workflows.
  • Proven ability to convert customer, partner, and developer insights into product strategy, roadmaps, requirements, and prioritized delivery plans.
  • Working knowledge of API product quality and lifecycle considerations, including consistency, versioning, backward compatibility, reliability, security, privacy, and error handling.
  • Excellent written communication and information-design skills, with the ability to make complex technical concepts clear and actionable.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills in an Agile product development environment.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Preferred
  • Experience with developer portals, API documentation, sandbox environments, or related developer-experience tooling.
  • Experience with complex B2B, partner, or data-provider integrations.
  • Experience supporting API products for external developers, enterprise customers, data partners, and internal teams.
  • Experience partnering with Product Operations, Customer Success, Support, or Solutions Engineering.

Compensation
  • $135k - $145k / year
  • Generous Benefits: 401(K) matched up to 7%, Flexible Time Off, 12 Paid Holidays, Medical/Dental/Vision/Wellness benefits, Monthly Team Events, Modern Work/Collaboration Spaces
