Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for generating original ideas for characters, episodes and season arcs and various other content and then pitching them to Exec Producers and Creative Execs.
  • Responsible for creating casting sides and record docs as needed.
  • Workshopping and brainstorming ideas and then writing them up into short premises that are then revised (often numerous times) and finally approved to be expanded into outline form.
  • Writing multi-page outlines that are then revised and adjusted according to creative and studio feedback before being approved and moved on to script stage (if a scripted show).
  • Writing multiple drafts of script, and interpreting and then incorporating notes from various departments on the production.
  • Meeting with Directors, Designers and Board Artists for script questions and clarification.
  • Responsible for taking notes from multiple sources and then addressing notes in a creative and expedient manner, in line with the guidelines of the show as established by studio and creators.
  • Addressing legal and S&P notes and concerns as needed, then making changes in concert with Story Editor and show leadership.
  • Working alongside writing staff, Story Editor, Producers, Directors and Board Artists for comedy/story punch up (providing notes/ideas/jokes) at the final script stage for every show (not just the shows Writer has written) and then through every stage of production; from thumbnail board pitches, to cleaned up pitches, to editorial pass and sometimes to final show lock, as needed.
  • Responsible for working with Production Management to meet schedule and deadlines.


Required Qualifications:
  • An awareness of current media (TV, FILM and PRINT) for all ages/studio key demographics in animation and live action.
  • Well-versed in different kinds of storytelling and story tropes.
  • Able to communicate clearly both in meetings and on the page.
  • Sense of comedic timing in all manner of humorous story-telling; visual gags, word play/dialogue, etc.
  • A strong sense of character and story structure; plants and pay offs, 3 act structure (as applicable) etc.
  • A team player with an innate understanding of animation production as a collaborative art form.
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years writing experience and/or training on a similar show; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A commitment to telling good stories, well, that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
  • Strong understanding of Final Draft
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • A love of the animation medium and an instinct for animation's particular visual strengths and devices
  • Animated television series experience a plus
