Position Summary

The Analytical Project Manager (APM) is responsible for providing technical support to a wide variety of projects including water quality monitoring, landfill operations, deactivation and demolition (D&D), waste disposition, and remedial actions. This role is based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and requires full-time in-office presence.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to a wide variety of projects including water quality monitoring, landfill operations, deactivation and demolition (D&D), waste disposition, and remedial actions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between project teams and contract analytical laboratories, ensuring that data generated are scientifically valid, legally defensible, and meet all regulatory and project-specific data quality objectives. This involves helping develop Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs), supporting the Data Quality Objective (DQO) process, and validating analytical data in accordance with nationally recognized programs.
  • Provide technical support for multiple projects
  • Address radiochemistry, stable chemistry, and general analytical data quality questions
  • Support the Data Quality Objective (DQO) process
  • Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) development
  • Data Management Implementation Plan (DMIP) development
  • Coordinate analytical support with laboratories

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in natural science, or equivalent job experience. An advanced degree is a plus.
  • Five years of experience in an analytical chemistry related position, including data review and/or data validation. Managerial experience is a plus.


Job Knowledge/Qualifications
  • Requires a broad professional knowledge of analytical chemistry, including radiochemical, inorganic, and organic methods, as well as an understanding of regulatory drivers like the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
  • Must communicate complex technical information effectively to personnel with diverse backgrounds and use professional judgment to interpret and apply guidelines to unique project challenges. The work is critical to the successful execution of multiple environmental projects, directly impacting the accuracy and reliability of data used for key decision-making, regulatory compliance, and the protection of public health and the environment.
  • Must have a background in radiochemical principles and the aptitude to expand on those skills.
  • Data validation experience is required in at least one of the four major areas of analytical testing.
  • Familiarity with the National Functional Guidelines (NFGs) for Data Review and Multi-Agency Radiological Laboratory Analytical Protocols Manual (MARLAP) is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the Multi-Agency Radiological Laboratory Analytical Protocols Manual (MARLAP) is a plus.
  • Work may be required outside normal business hours and sometimes on short notice
