Job Description:

Department Overview:

TD Securities offers a wide range of capital markets products and services to corporate, government, and institutional clients who choose us for our innovation, execution, and experience. With more than 6,500 professionals operating out of 40 cities across the globe, we help clients meet their needs today and prepare for tomorrow. Our services include underwriting and distributing new issues, providing trusted advice and industry-leading insight, extending access to global markets, and delivering integrated transaction banking solutions.

In 2023, we acquired Cowen Inc., expanding our capabilities to offer clients access to a premier U.S. equities business and a highly-diverse equity research franchise, further strengthening our position as a leading, diversified investment bank. As we continue to grow, our ambition is clear - to become one of North America's top 10 investment banks, delivering exceptional value and service to our clients.

We are growth-oriented, people-focused, and community-minded. As a team, we work to deliver value for our clients every day.

This position is within TD Securities' Canadian Debt Capital Markets ("DCM") team and will focus on High Yield Debt Capital Markets origination. The DCM team delivers innovative financing solutions through deep understanding of public and private markets and provides bond underwriting, bond and debt arrangement, financial advisory, ratings advisory and inaugural issuance advisory services to its diversified base of high yield clients.

Job Description:

The Analyst will focus primarily on building client presentations, covering: financial markets, capital structures, credit ratings, liability management, and other DCM related advisory materials. The role will also involve execution support to senior team members on Canadian high yield offerings.

The candidate will be reliable and take personal responsibility for the tasks they undertake, working to solve problems independently and taking pride in their success. The candidate will possess experience building models in excel, proficiency with PowerPoint, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Analytical skills are critical for performing credit analysis and reviewing legal documents (prospectuses, offering memorandums, bond indentures, credit agreements, etc.). The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, eager to learn, show initiative in getting ahead of the workload, while being efficient with their time and detail-oriented in their work.

The candidate should also have a clearly defined interest in DCM. A collegial and team-oriented view of success is very important to allow the candidate to fit into the team. The candidate will be comfortable supporting senior team members, while building knowledge and skills that will eventually allow them to develop relationships with existing and potential corporate clients and institutional investors.

While the base skills and tasks used each day tend to be similar, due to the varied types of issuers covered and transactions executed, no two days are alike. Candidates need to be flexible and able to adapt as the nature of the work changes.

Job Requirements / Qualifications:
  • Recent graduate or professional with experience in debt capital markets, investment banking, leveraged finance, private credit, corporate banking, or a related field
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree from a university with a focus on business, finance, accounting, or investment analysis; MBA, CFA, CPA or other meaningful business designation is a plus
  • Ability to meet tight timelines and operate in a highly complex and demanding work environment
  • An understanding of accounting, business valuation and solid financial modelling skills
  • Understanding public and private debt transactions, including legal documents, ratings, covenants, terms, etc. considered an asset
  • Relationship building skills as the role intersects with multiple teams across the bank (investment banking, equity capital markets, corporate credit, M&A, etc.) and varied management team members at our client firms
  • Client coverage capabilities, including participating in client pitches and taking responsibility for select portions of debt transactions (including developing transaction marketing materials)
