Job Summary

Under general direction, performs advanced and professional technical work in the installation, configuration, support, maintenance, and administration of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Head End Systems (HES) and Meter Data Management System (MDMS).

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following)May supervise personnel participating in the same work and/or in similar type of work.

Responsible for the daily activities and responsibilities of the department in the absene of the manager.

Installs, configures, and maintains AMI, HES, MDMS application environments including creation, publication, and optimization of a variety of Smart Grid applications.

Works with AMI vendors to ensure systems are performing at optimal level and maintain systems up-to-date.

Works with the Information Technology (IT) Department to troubleshoot integrations with other software systems used by employees and BPUB customers.

Shares operational statistical reports with management and works with the Customer Service, Billing, CIS, and operations departments to continuously improve the AMI system.

Assists management in developing policies and procedures, notices and work instructions, and staff training programs.

Participates in short-term and long-term technology planning for Smart Grid requirements.

Researches, analyzes, and makes recommendations regarding the adoption and use of integrated systems and equipment; reviews and analyzes quotes from suppliers and vendors; ensures compliance with contracts and written agreements with vendors, private sector businesses, and City of Brownsville.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Computer Science or a related field and five (5) years' experience in system administration, computer programming and testing, or data analytics.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Requires a valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver's License within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be able to sit and work with computers for prolonged periods. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 40 lbs.). Work is done in a normal office environment with frequent exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt, and dust and/or disagreeable sights and odors.

Eligibility for Employment

In addition to any and all other qualifications required for employment stated under the Brownsville P.U.B Personnel Policies and Procedures Policy No. 39:

  • Prohibit the hiring of any person who is related to BPUB Executive Management within the third degree of Consanguinity or second degree by Affinity; and


  • Based on certain prohibitions of the Charter and Statute on nepotism, no person can be hired who shall be related to any member of the Board of Directors or City Commission within the third degree of consanguinity or second degree by affinity.
