AMES Technical Advisor - Detailed Job Description

The AMES Technical Advisor provides high-level strategic, operational, and technical advisory support across AMES business disciplines, including Heavy Maintenance, Line Maintenance, Quality, Components, Manufacturing, Engineering, planning, technical assistance, and related operational support functions.

This position serves as a senior advisor and change agent for the General Manager and leadership team. The Technical Advisor is empowered to lead and execute assigned special projects, business improvement initiatives, customer-focused recovery efforts, technical transformation activities, and cross-functional problem-solving efforts within the assigned advisor discipline.

This is an advisory and project-execution focused position and is not intended to serve as the routine Director or Supervisor of Operations. The position does not have routine direct supervisory or budget responsibility unless separately assigned.
What You Will Do
Strategic Technical Advisory
  • Provide senior-level advisory support within the assigned technical discipline.
  • Provide operational assessments, planning insights, technical assistance, and strategic recommendations.
  • Support AMES business functions including Heavy Maintenance, Line Maintenance, Quality, Components, Manufacturing, Engineering, and related operational areas.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to leaders and teams.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable regulatory requirements and their impact on AMES operations.
  • Assist leadership with customer support and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve technical performance, processes, and overall operational effectiveness.
Special Projects & Business Improvement
  • Lead or execute special projects sponsored by the General Manager.
  • Support technical and operational improvement initiatives across AMES.
  • Lead or participate in customer-focused recovery actions.
  • Assist with technical transformation and organizational improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate existing processes and recommend improvements to increase operational effectiveness.
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts involving multiple AMES departments or disciplines.
  • Work with senior operating leadership to address complex technical and operational challenges.
Change Leadership
  • Serve as a change agent with the support and direction of the General Manager.
  • Influence and collaborate with leaders and teams across the organization to support positive operational change.
  • Help develop and implement improvements that strengthen technical performance, customer support, quality, and operational execution.
  • Provide objective technical and operational recommendations to AMES leadership.
  • Support organizational initiatives without serving as the routine day-to-day Director, Supervisor, or owner of operations.
What You Need
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5+ years of technical experience with a FAR Part 121 Airline or FAR Part 145 Repair Station in line maintenance, heavy maintenance, or component repair maintenance.
  • Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Licenses.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of FAA regulations pertaining to FAR Parts 21 and 145.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with AS9100 and ISO9000 requirements.
  • Ability to understand and utilize technical and regulatory publications, including:
    • Aircraft Maintenance Manuals
    • Overhaul Manuals
    • Service Bulletins
    • Airworthiness Directives
    • Illustrated Parts Catalogues
    • Engineering Drawings
    • Structural Repair Manuals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence employees and leaders across multiple areas of the organization.
  • Ability to assess complex technical or operational issues and provide practical recommendations and solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or another related field.
  • Previous high-level managerial or advanced technical oversight experience with an aviation Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) organization performing line and heavy maintenance services.
Physical Requirements

The position may require the ability to:
  • Lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Work at heights up to 60 feet.
  • Twist, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, and climb and sustain these positions for extended periods of time.
  • Work in confined spaces while utilizing respiratory equipment.
  • Work with arms raised above the head and perform repetitive tasks and motions.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Precisely manipulate hand tools in a variety of situations.
  • Maintain the visual, hearing, speaking, hand/eye coordination, and communication abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Supervisory & Budget Responsibility

This position has no routine direct supervisory responsibility and no routine budget responsibility. Any additional supervisory or budget responsibilities would be separately assigned.
Safety-Sensitive Position

This position may perform safety-sensitive functions as defined by applicable Department of Transportation and FAA regulations. Positions performing safety-sensitive functions are subject to the company's Drug/Alcohol Misuse Prevention Program and applicable regulatory requirements.
