Full Job Description
This position has a base compensation range of USD 200,000.00 to USD 220,000.00. In addition to this base compensation, you'll benefit from our competitive health and welfare programs, a 401(k)-retirement savings plan, opportunities for tuition assistance, and incentive compensation for eligible positions. The Airfreight Country Manager - US is responsible for the profitability, quality, performance, and growth of the Airfreight product in the Country. Manages and is fully accountable for the Country Airfreight P&L down to CM2. This role acts in alignment with the CMD and works closely with Regional Airfreight and other products and functions within the Country, backed by globally aligned frameworks and concepts.

This position combines national leadership and branch-level accountability. In addition to overseeing airfreight operations at the country level, the Country Head of Airfreight will also serve as Airfreight Manager for the Chicago branch, assuming similar duties and responsibilities across both functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Executes the AMCS and global airfreight strategy, as directed by SVP Airfreight AMCS and Global Head of Airfreight.

  • Achieves strategic objectives defined by the SVP Airfreight AMCS and Global Head of Airfreight.

  • Responsible for overall USA Airfreight P/L, for achieving airfreight financial goals and operational KPI’s and for assuring customer excellence in the US branches.

  • Builds a culture of excellence by implementing performance objectives throughout the entire Airfreight country organization.

  • Creates a growth mindset environment towards his/her solid and dotted line team.

  • In coordination with regional procurement and gateway manager, ensures gateways are reviewed for maximum effect regarding service and procurement/margin management.

  • Communicates and reviews operations and financial status with USA airfreight branches and US gateways on an ongoing basis.

  • Leads and steers the development of the airfreight business in the country for profitable and sustainable growth.

  • Leads and steers Trade Lane Management as per AMCS and global strategy.

  • Supports and guides Sales, Key Account Management, and Tender Management with pricing on ongoing tenders and opportunities.

  • Supports Sales and Key Account Management in face-to-face customer meetings and negotiations on larger opportunities and drives pipeline management with Sales team.

  • Leads and supports continuous improvement in Airfreight operational productivity.

  • Supports e-initiatives, such as eAWB.

  • Ensures Airfreight stations are compliant with all regulations.

  • Ensures and develops best talent of employees within the airfreight organization.

  • Liaises with management and all stakeholders including the Hellmann Network to ensure company objectives and strategies are accomplished.

  • Acts within our Hellmann business code of conduct.

  • Lives and delivers the Hellmann brand promise by building and maintaining lasting relationships with customers.

  • Implements a countrywide blueprint for Airfreight Operations, including centralization of selected activities/flows within a globally agreed framework.

  • Functionally leads Airfreight Operations in Branches (Customer Service and Operational Service)

  • Is accountable and responsible for Country Airfreight productivity, quality, and Customer Performance and takes corrective action where required.

  • Ensures timely and accurate invoicing and job costing in country Airfreight Operations.

  • Ensures country Airfreight operations are compliant with external regulations and internal policies (incl. e.g. Airfreight Safety and Security, DG qualifications, GDP compliance).

  • Is consulted for and approves hiring into Airfreight positions in Branches.

  • Develops new business jointly with Country Managing Director and Head of Sales. Directs efforts of Field Sales in alignment with Head of Sales.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with major customers.

  • Manages local Airfreight procurement and subcontractor performance and compliance in line with global carrier strategy and standards.

  • Implements aligned global and regional Airfreight projects.

  • Will perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Will manage up to solid and dotted line reports (airfreight managers in the branches) and will oversee all Airfreight team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors’ degree in Business, Supply Chain Logistics or related field; Masters’ preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirement

  • 10 – 15 years working experience in Air Freight operations, sales, account management, procurement or gateways

  • 7 – 10 years’ experience at a supervisory/management level in Air Freight operations,

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently required to stand, and walk

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods

  • Regularly uses arms to reach, hands and fingers for computer and phone use

  • Speaking clearly and listening for heavy phone contact

  • Requires close-up and computer screen distance vision ability

  • Requires up to 50% overnight travel
