  • Monitors and enhances the reliability, performance, and scalability of AI applications.
  • Identifies and resolves bugs and technical issues, improving inherited code systems.
  • Develops and ships new AI product features based on user needs.
  • Evaluates technical approaches balancing product needs and system maintainability.
  • Serves as a technical resource for AI products and external vendor communications.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Damar is looking for a talented and motivated AI Product Engineer to join our team. The AI Product Engineer bridges the gap between Damar’s mission and the technical development and execution of AI products. This role is responsible for hands-on development and troubleshooting while partnering with external technology vendors to refine products and prepare them for successful implementation, scalability, and commercialization.

• Designs, develops, tests, deploys, and maintains code supporting Damar’s AI product stack, including data pipelines, model integrations, APIs, application logic, and other supporting systems• Monitors and improves the reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability of AI-enabled applications and supporting infrastructure• Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves bugs, system issues, and technical debt, including improving or refactoring code and systems inherited from previous development work• Independently prototypes, develops, tests, and ships new AI product features and enhancements based on organizational and user needs• Evaluates technical approaches and makes practical engineering decisions that balance product needs, maintainability, scalability, security, and speed of delivery• Serves as an internal technical resource and point of contact for AI products, systems, integrations, and related development work• Partners with external technology vendors and translates technical discussions, requirements, limitations, and recommendations into clear information for non-technical leaders and staff• Collaborates with internal stakeholders to translate business needs and workflow challenges into technical requirements and product solutions• Creates and maintains clear technical documentation for code, architecture, integrations, configurations, processes, and key technical decisions to ensure institutional knowledge remains within the organization• Contributes to the technical roadmap for AI products by identifying priorities, technical dependencies, system improvements, risks, and future development opportunities

 

What you need to be considered:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience, including relevant professional experience, technical training, bootcamp education, or demonstrated technical expertise, may be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, application development, AI/ML engineering, or a related technical field

  • Equipment Familiarity: Computer and standard office technology; Claude Code; GitHub; Google Workspace; Google Cloud Platform (GCP); and other software development, AI, cloud computing, and collaboration tools as required

  • Certifications, Licenses or Special Training: 

  • Minimum age of 21 per licensure requirements

  • Ability to pass and maintain CPR certification

  • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements for all Damar Programs as detailed in policy 1.HR.02 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks

  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)

  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical and drug screen required

     

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions of this position require the physical ability and mobility needed to perform the job. This includes the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.; operate office equipment, including a computer keyboard; travel to other locations using private or commercial transportation; and communicate effectively to exchange information.

 

The position also requires the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to client behaviors, staff instructions, safety concerns, and emergencies in an environment where individuals may display aggressive, self-injurious, sexually maladaptive, elopement, or other unpredictable behaviors.
