Agile Coach - Washington, DC

Role and Responsibilities

  • The Senior Agile Coach is responsible for assessing team maturity, creating tailored coaching plans, and guiding teams to improve their Agile practices and capabilities regardless of their starting point. This role works directly with teams to build foundational Agile skills, accelerate mature teams' performance and navigate resistance to change. The Senior Agile Coach collaborates closely with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Program Managers to ensure teams deliver value effectively while adhering to the organization's Agile playbook and standards. The Senior Agile Coach will follow the guidance and direction of the Agile Program Manager.

Minimum Qualification
  • At least seven (7) years of hands-on experience coaching Agile teams across various maturity levels in complex organizations.
  • At least one of the following relevant certifications (e.g., ICAgile Certified Professional -
  • Agile Coaching, Certified Scrum Professional, SAFe Practice Consultant, or equivalent) is required.
  • Proven track record assessing team capabilities, creating effective coaching strategies, and driving measurable improvements in team performance and Agile maturity.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate organizational resistance and adapt coaching approaches to different team contexts.
  • Experience working within established organizational playbooks and frameworks while introducing industry best practices. Government or highly regulated industry experience preferred.
  • BS/BA degree with 12-15 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Prior experience leading Agile processes with programs of similar size and complexity.


Capabilities
  • Familiar with Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe.
  • Experience with system requirements, development, test, release management, and project scheduling.
  • Experience with software development, integration, and maintenance.
  • Mastery in Facilitation skills, including coaching to Scrum of Scrums,
  • Product Owner Sync, Inspect and Adapt Workshops.


The Contractor shall deliver, but not limited to, the following:
  • Team Maturity Advancement: Assess team maturity and create tailored coaching plans, guide teams through progressive capability building, and establish sustainable Agile Practices within teams.
  • Agile Practice Excellence: Coach teams on Scrum/Kanban ceremonies, artifacts, and roles, ensure teams apply Agile principles effectively (not just mechanically), and embed continuous improvement mindset and practices.
  • Change Management & Resistance: Navigate team resistance to Agile adoption, build buy-in and engagement with new ways of working, and address mindset and cultural barriers to transformation
