Position InformationTransportation Planning Supervisor. This position is directly responsible for and oversees the District's planning staff and serves as a TXDOT representative with multiple agencies and entities throughout the region. This role helps shape and monitor the Houston District's long-range plan in coordination with the Metropolitan Planning Organization. A successful candidate for this position will be able to communicate clearly and effectively, plan work efficiently and be self-motivated. This role has the opportunity to influence the entire region as we work with our partners to improve our transportation system.
Position DescriptionOversees the development of transportation planning functions in a metropolitan district. Reports to the Director of Transportation Planning and Development, Deputy District Engineer, District Engineer. Manages a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees engaged in transportation planning activities. Work requires contact with governmental officials and the public. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:- Coordinates development of the Unified Work Program with MPOs and monitors expenditures of federal planning funds.
- Develops and monitors the transportation planning budget.
- Oversees district participation in development, coordination and implementation of the Unified Transportation Program, the State Transportation Plan and action plans for specific projects.
- Oversees long-range and short-range transportation planning and coordinates with Regional Mobility Authorities/Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) to develop the annual Transportation Improvement Program and Metropolitan Transportation Plans.
- Oversees the administration of public transportation grants and related programs.
- Oversees urban transportation planning including land use and population inventories, travel demand modeling, drafting and graphics, map preparation and highway performance monitoring.
- Represents the district at various meetings and public hearings.
- Responsible for the advanced transportation planning program in a district.
- Serves as liaison between the Federal Highway Administration and MPOs on matters impacting urban transportation planning programs.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: - Bachelor's Degree in Transportation planning, public transportation, engineering. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience:- 5 years of experience in d Transportation planning. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
- Must have three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

- State, county and local government operations and metropolitan planning organizations or regional mobility authorities affecting highway and transportation development and operations

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs. at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Standing - prolonged periods of time
- Repetitive Motion - substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
