Responsibilities

Full Job Description
Compensation: $150,000 - $160,000

The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Primary Care under the supervision of the facility physician, provides advanced nursing services and patient care in the facility's medical program to inmates/residents.

The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.

Primary Healthcare Services:
  • Conducts thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals.
    Diagnoses and treats a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections.
    • Develops and implements individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions.
    • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, such as pharmaceuticals, laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings.
    • Provides vaccinations, performs health screenings, and promotes preventive care measures within the correctional population.
    • Performs basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting and injections.
  • Chronic Disease Management:
  • Monitors and manages chronic diseases prevalent among incarcerated individuals, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis C.
    • Ensures proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness.
    • Educates patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.
    • Collaborates with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals, when necessary.
    Emergency Medical Services:
    • Responds to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions.
    Coordinates with emergency medical services or arranges for transfers to external medical facilities, when required.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises to ensure efficient emergency response within the correctional setting


Coll Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, and other correctional staff, to ensure coordinated and integrated healthcare delivery.
  • Communicates effectively with healthcare team members, providing necessary information, consultations, and referrals.
  • Participates in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall healthcare delivery system.

Documentation and Compliance:
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered.
  • Adheres to patient confidentiality regulations and ensures the security and privacy of medical records.
  • Complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing correctional healthcare and professional ethical standards.

Professional Development:
  • Stays updated with the latest advancements in primary care, correctional medicine, and relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Engages in continuous professional development activities.
  • Provides training and education to correctional staff on primary healthcare topics, as needed.
