Position Summary:The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of
Surgery, Division of
Pediatric Neurosurgery, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide care within the inpatient, OR, and ambulatory settings. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.
Position Highlights:- Provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for pediatric neurosurgery patients, with a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and a commitment to safe, quality care
- Work in close collaboration with Neurosurgery Faculty, APP Colleagues, Neurosurgery Residents, and Interdisciplinary Teams
- Patient population: premature infants through young adults requiring neurosurgical evaluation and treatment
- Location: Primarily Milwaukee Campus with Clinic in Appleton (two to three times annually)
- Opportunities to participate in quality improvement and research
- Division-supported continuing medical education (CME)
- Required: Reports to APP Manager
Schedule:- Monday - Friday with scheduling flexibility required to provide an appropriate level of patient care coverage
- No clinical weekend and/or holiday requirements
- 1.0 FTE

Department/Division Highlights:The Neurosurgery team provides surgical treatment for neurological conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nerves - including brain tumors, hydrocephalus, spinal abnormalities, epilepsy, and traumatic injuries. Our team includes four neurosurgeons, four advanced practice providers, five nurses, and five office team members.
We support numerous multidisciplinary programs, including Head Shape, Neuro-Oncology, Epilepsy, Fetal Concerns, Spasticity, and Spina Bifida. Last year we saw 805 new patients, completed 3,134 ambulatory visits across Milwaukee and Appleton, and performed 582 procedures. We are fortunate to have a diverse team with varying levels of experience, yet with all team members performing at a high level at or near the top of their scope.
Qualifications:Preferred Experience: - Previous APP Pediatric Surgical Specialties and/or Neurosciences experience preferred.
Minimum Education:- Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.
- Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
Minimum Requirements:Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner- Wisconsin RN Licensure
- Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
- Certification Requirements
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- DEA registration (if required for the position)
- Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization
- Physician Assistant
- Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
- Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
