Job Description:
SCOPE: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as an integral member of the Breast Surgery team in a collaborative practice model under supervision of a Surgical Oncologist. The APP provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, perioperative management, survivorship care, and patient education for individuals with benign breast disease, breast cancer, hereditary cancer syndromes, and patients at increased risk for breast cancer. The APP practices within the scope of Louisiana licensure, institutional policies, collaborative practice agreements, and evidence-based clinical guidelines while promoting exceptional patient outcomes, continuity of care, patient satisfaction, and multidisciplinary collaboration.)
FUNCTIONS:
1. Surgical Evaluation and Perioperative Care: Assists the Surgical Oncologist in providing comprehensive surgical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and perioperative management.
2. Patient Follow-Up and Survivorship Care: Provides independent evaluation, follow-up care, symptom management, survivorship care, and management of benign breast disease within established protocols.
3. Clinical Operations and Care Coordination: Provides active participation in all aspects of clinical operations, multidisciplinary coordination, and physician support.
4. Patient, Staff, and Community Education: Provides education and counseling to patients, families, staff, and community regarding breast health and breast cancer care.
5. Quality Improvement and Professional Development: Participates in quality improvement, professional development, patient advocacy, and resource management.
EDUCATION:
Nurse Practitioner
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or equivalent degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
OR
Physician Assistant
Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum three years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider preferred. Experience in the below specialties preferred:
- Breast Surgery
- Surgical Oncology
- Women's Health
- General Surgery
- Oncology
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
Nurse Practitioner
- Licensed Registered Nurse in Louisiana
- Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
- National certification as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology NP (AGNP), Women's Health NP (WHNP), or other appropriate specialty
DEA registration (if applicable)
OR
Physician Assistant
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Louisiana Physician Assistant license
- NCCPA certification
- DEA registration (if applicable)
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software and Crystal Report Writer.
- Must type a minimum of 65 wpm.
