A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE, Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Job Summary

The Michigan Medicine Neurology Department has dedicated specialists who evaluate and treat a wide range of neurologic conditions, including epilepsy, headache, movement disorders, and cognitive disorders such as Alzheimers disease and related dementias. This opening is with the Cognitive Disorders team. The Cognitive Disorders team consists of physicians and advanced practice providers who deliver high-quality and evidence-based care to individuals with cognitive impairment. Early assessment of cognitive decline is essential to guide appropriate treatment. Prompt evaluation and access to new Alzheimer?s disease treatments, such as intravenous monoclonal antibodies that clear brain amyloid plaques, slows the cognitive and functional decline for patients with early disease.

Responsibilities*

Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Perform history and physical examinations
  • Administer evidenced-based cognitive assessments for diagnosis and treatment monitoring
  • Order imaging scans and laboratory testing
  • Prescribe treatments
  • Triage referrals to assist in determination of eligibility for time-sensitive treatments
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
  • Coordinate treatment delivery and communicate across care teams such as pharmacy, infusion services, primary care providers, social work, and other professionals

Organizational Relationships and Practice Environment:
Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive medical supervision from the Department of Neurology Service Chief.
Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive administrative supervision from the APP Manager.

Required Qualifications*

NP
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Acute Gerontologic Primary Care Nurse practitioners, or Adult Nurse Practitioner
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Current DEA registration required
  • ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).
  • Three years of experience providing outpatient neurology care in an advanced practice role or one year of outpatient cognitive or similar neurology experience in an advanced practice role
  • Experience performing cognitive screening exams


PA:
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License required
  • Current DEA registration required
  • ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).
  • Three years of experience providing outpatient neurology care in an advanced practice role or one year of outpatient cognitive or similar neurology experience in an advanced practice role
  • Experience performing cognitive screening exams

Hours: 40 hours per week

Location: Ambulatory Care: predominately Taubman Health Center and East Ann Arbor Health Center
