As an Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer (Fan and Compressor Aerodynamics) here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will join the industry leader to design the next generation of breakthrough technologies. You will be part of a team responsible for aerodynamic design, simulation, analysis and test of fan and compressor (FanC) in gas turbine engine (turbomachinery) applications within Honeywell Aerospace Engines and Power Systems (E&PS).

You will also support currently fielded products and contribute towards development of new products for a variety of turbofan, turboshaft and auxiliary power unit (APU) applications. In addition, you will apply principles of design, physics, mathematics and software development to perform a broad variety of engineering tasks on turbofan, turboshaft, and APU product lines.

You will contribute to continuous improvement of design, analysis and simulation methods.

You will report directly to our Engineering Manager, and you'll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Aerodynamic Design - Perform activities related to aerodynamic design of rotating and static turbomachinery components such as blades, vanes, stators, axial and centrifugal compressors, by evaluating parameters such as pressure ratio/mass flow/efficiency/surge margin with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) as a core responsibility
  • Support testing of components and engine modules in various lifecycle stages (rig, development, production) and perform data reduction/analysis on test data
  • Generate accompanying documentation capturing results and findings following design, simulation, analysis and test activities
  • Develop and present engineering artifacts during structured design reviews
  • Contribute to technical mentoring, process/tool improvement and knowledge capture


Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
  • 3 or more years of professional engineering experience
  • 3 or more years of combined experience with a commercial CFD software such as ANSYS CFX/FLUENT, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ or Cadence CharLES
  • 1 or more years of experience with MATLAB, Python or C++ scripting or equivalent

WE VALUE
  • 5+ years industry experience with B.S.; 2+ years industry experience with M.S. or Ph.D.
  • Familiar with turbomachinery fan and compressor aerodynamic design principles
  • Familiar with turbomachinery test methodologies, data acquisition, and data reduction in a lab environment
  • Knowledge of AI/ML, adjoint optimization and multidisciplinary optimization
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or another scripting language
  • Familiarity w/ manufacturing, product support, and field support of gas turbine engines
  • Problem solving proficiency w/ root cause analysis (RCCA)
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Strong writing, speaking and presenting skills
