Full Job Description

We are seeking a technically strong and innovation-driven Principal Engineer to serve as a Technical Leader within Flowserve’s Innovation Execution team. In this role, you will develop and deliver advanced solutions for emerging customer and industry needs within a critical growth area. You will lead sprint-based innovation programs, with support from dotted-line team members, to accelerate development, solve technical challenges, and deliver high-impact outcomes. You will also partner closely with other engineering teams, including Innovation Core Functions, New Product Development, and Business Unit Engineering, to align resources and build future technical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical sprint execution for assigned innovation programs, ensuring clear direction, accountability, and timely delivery of sprint objectives.
  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership to team members who report through dotted-line relationships, aligning priorities, deliverables, and technical direction.
  • Drive execution of innovation projects across assigned technical focus areas
  • Coordinate closely with Innovation Core Functions to ensure the right technical capabilities and resources are aligned to each sprint or project effort.
  • Translate innovation priorities into actionable technical workplans, sprint goals, and execution milestones.
  • Support technical problem solving, design decisions, prototyping, testing, and validation activities needed to advance innovation programs.
  • Maintain strong communication with project managers, engineering leaders, and stakeholders to support alignment, issue resolution, and execution speed.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and resource constraints early and escalate or resolve them as needed to keep sprint execution on track.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Innovation Execution processes, tools, and team operating methods.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert in one or more assigned innovation domains.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Several years of technical experience in product development, systems engineering, applied R&D, or innovation execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and coordinate work across direct and dotted-line team structures.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience leading technical workstreams, sprints, prototypes, or cross-functional project efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience at the Specialist or Principal Engineer level supporting products or systems for extraordinary flow control solutions.
  • Familiarity with agile execution methods, sprint planning, stage-gate processes, or structured innovation delivery approaches.
  • Experience working in matrixed organizations with both direct-report and dotted-line team structures.
  • Experience supporting technology development from concept through prototype, test, and validation.
