Accounting Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Financial Management Systems

Location: Austin, TX
Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 Annually (Based on Experience and Technical Interview)

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Accounting Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a federal financial management systems program. This role will serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders, accounting teams, and technical teams by supporting Financial Management System (FMS) operations, manual model translations, system implementations, and customer-facing support activities.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in federal financial management systems, accounting processes, and system implementation efforts. Experience supporting Federal Government Program Financial Management Systems or similar federal financial platforms is highly desired.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support federal customers with Financial Management System (FMS) analysis, troubleshooting, and functional support activities.
  • Analyze existing business processes and identify opportunities for process improvements and system optimization.
  • Translate and support manual accounting models and financial processes within Financial Records Management Systems (FRMs).
  • Gather, analyze, and document business and functional requirements.
  • Support data conversion, migration, validation, and testing activities.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve complex financial system issues.
  • Develop recommendations and implement solutions to support customer requirements.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and provide subject matter expertise on financial system functionality and accounting processes.
  • Support system implementation activities including:
    • Requirements analysis
    • Solution design
    • Configuration documentation
    • User acceptance testing
    • Deployment support
  • Assist with federal government-mandated initiatives and compliance requirements.
  • Provide front-end user support and customer engagement regarding financial system functionality.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of financial management solutions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of Financial Management Systems industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of Accounting Subject Matter Expert experience supporting financial systems implementation projects.
  • Experience supporting Financial Management Systems (FMS), Financial Records Management Systems (FRMs), or similar enterprise financial platforms.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial operations, and business process analysis.
  • Experience gathering requirements and supporting system implementation efforts.
  • Ability to independently analyze problems, identify solutions, and execute corrective actions.
  • Outstanding organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to establish priorities, manage competing demands, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Federal Government Program Financial Management System experience.
  • Experience supporting Momentum Financials or similar federal ERP platforms.
  • Federal government financial systems experience.
  • Experience supporting system modernization or transformation initiatives.
