Accounting Payroll Manager

Job Overview

The Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the organizations payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. This role will contribute to the organization as an active business partner that is responsible for supporting the company's overall financial goals and objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities

Job duties include, although are not limited to:

1. Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

2. Collaborate with Director of Finance and Director of Human Resources to implement controls to reduce risk

3. Oversee and drive the payroll processing cycle, submit and complete payroll

4. Review and approve all tax filings and oversee response to tax authorities

5. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, staff appointments, transfers, promotions, terminations, changes to pay rates, tips and commissions.

6. Interprets new legislation impacting payroll.

7. Maintain knowledge base of federal, state and local payroll and payroll tax laws and inform management of current legal and compliance changes and ensure that payroll system is updated to reflect the same.

8. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.

9. Prepares relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports.

10. Prepares statistical reports as needed.

11. Supervises and directs the activities of payroll administrators/supervisors.

12. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

13. Processes and distributes employee payments by issuing checks, direct transfers or other payment methods.

14. Update and upload tip files for payroll processing.

15. Will be responsible for maintain and championing Evention and OnTrack systems

16. Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.

17. Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.

18. Compiles data from payroll sources.

19. Prepares relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports.

20. Prepares statistical reports as needed.

21. Supervises and directs the activities of payroll administrators.

22. Performs other duties as assigned.

23. Assist with the month-end process in relation to payroll.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred.

2. Three to five years of related experience overseeing payroll of over 500 colleagues required.

3. ADP Essentials Time and Attendance experience required

4. Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.

5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

7. Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

8. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

9. Due to month and year end nature of work, ability to work long hours on occasion and over weekends required as needed.

10. Professional certifications such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and Certificated Payroll Specialist (CPS) is a bonus.

11. Reconciles employee benefits.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
