Job Title: Accounting Operations Specialist

Location: Hybrid (Herndon, VA)

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Accounting Operations Specialist to support payroll and accounting operations within the Finance organization. This role’s primary responsibility will be coordinating and managing payroll processing activities, including payroll data gathering, validation, approvals, and submission to the company’s payroll processing provider.

In addition to payroll responsibilities, this role will provide backup support for Accounts Payable processes, assist with reconciliations and operational reporting, and participate in process improvement and cross-training initiatives across the Accounting Operations team. While payroll will serve as the primary focus area, this role will also support broader accounting operations functions to promote team collaboration and business continuity.

Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, consistent follow-through, the ability to manage recurring deadlines, and a willingness to learn multiple accounting operations processes within a structured and collaborative environment.

Experience with Workday preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations (Primary Responsibility)

  • Coordinate and manage payroll processing activities from data collection through final submission

  • Gather, validate, and review payroll data for completeness and accuracy prior to processing

  • Coordinate payroll approvals and submit finalized payroll information to the company’s payroll processing provider

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related operational questions and issue resolution

  • Partner with HR, managers, and employees to resolve payroll discrepancies and follow up on outstanding items

  • Maintain payroll documentation, audit support, and payroll-related records

  • Support payroll reconciliations, reporting activities, and process improvements

  • Ensure payroll activities are completed timely, accurately, and in compliance with internal procedures

Accounting Operations Support

  • Assist with account reconciliations and operational reporting activities

  • Support process improvement initiatives, documentation updates, and workflow enhancements

  • Develop working knowledge across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and related accounting operations processes to support cross-functional collaboration and business continuity

  • Provide operational and project support across the Accounting Operations team based on business priorities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

  • 1-3 years of accounting, payroll, AP, AR, or related finance experience preferred

  • Foundational understanding of accounting principles and financial operations

  • Experience with Workday strongly preferred

  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately

  • Strong communication, follow-up, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is:

$71,800.00-93,100.00 USD

The actual salary offered may vary within the range based on a candidates' unique experience, locale, and business needs.
