Accounting Manager

Description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department and ensuring the accurate preparation, analysis, and reporting of financial information across multiple entities. This role provides leadership to the accounting team while driving continuous improvement in financial processes, controls, systems, and reporting.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical accounting knowledge, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to support organizational objectives

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team by providing direction, performance feedback, training, and support.
  • Collaborate with leadership teams to support Finance department objectives and organizational goals.
  • Oversee the general ledger and review entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including consolidations, reconciliations, analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Identify, research, and resolve complex accounting issues while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Lead financial systems enhancements and process improvement initiatives in collaboration with business stakeholders and technology teams.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Support special projects, business initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts across the organization.
  • Oversee accounting activities related to international entities and intercompany transactions where applicable.
  • Partner with operational and departmental leaders to provide financial insights and support business decision-making.
  • Coordinate annual external audits and support regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA designation is an asset.
  • Previous leadership or management experience. Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience working with financial systems, ERP platforms, and reporting tools.
  • Experience leading financial systems implementations or process improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and reporting requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
