POSITION SUMMARYDentons is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee local financial operations and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial and trust accounting activities. This role supports the Director of Finance & Operations and acts as a key liaison between local office leadership and national finance teams. This role is a
hybrid opportunity requiring a minimum of
three days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee day to day accounting operations including trust accounting, expense review, and bank account management.
- Review monthly financial results, perform variance analysis, and prepare balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Coordinate month end close processes, including journal entries and financial review packages.
- Provide financial insights and reporting to local leadership and national finance stakeholders.
- Support annual budgeting, audit requests, and year end activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Law Society accounting rules, trust reporting requirements, and regulatory filings.
- Deliver onboarding and ongoing training on accounting and trust procedures for legal support teams.
- Manage local trust related processes such as unclaimed trust funds, and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with Billing, Receivables, Payables, Payroll, and Controllership teams to ensure accurate and timely financial data.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to local accounting and trust team members.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in full cycle financial accounting roles.
- Minimum of 2 years of team management experience.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, trust accounting requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop team members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Proficiency with financial systems, including:
- ERP systems (Elite 3E preferred),
- Chrome River (or similar T&E system),
- Microsoft Office (advanced Excel), and
- Power BI (asset).

The target salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000, commensurate with the successful candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.
