The Accounting Manager is responsible for oversight of the accounting department at Bonnie Plants and helps to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. This position manages two direct reports, a Senior Corporate Accountant and a Staff Corporate Accountant. This position reports to the Vice President of Accounting.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Lead the timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and the preparation of financial statements.
• Supervisor, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the accounting staff, while fostering team training and professional development.
• Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure all financial practices align with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards.
• Perform analysis on monthly inventory, including review of production units, raw material consumption, labor, and overhead. Preparation of monthly COGS related entries.
• Oversight of state and local tax compliance, including reviewing personal property returns.
• Oversight of all long-term leases, equipment, and real estate. This includes capitalization of leases and monthly lease accounting.
• Oversight of fleet card and credit card systems. Includes on-call employee support.
• Work with external auditors and tax CPA firm on requests and projects.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Extensive knowledge of general ledger accounting.
• Thorough understanding of GAAP principles.
• Proven experience with ASC 842 Lease Accounting.
• Experience with ERP systems and other accounting software, such as lease software.
• Demonstrated analytic capability - specifically in the areas of regulations and compliance laws.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and strong capabilities with Excel.
• Demonstrated understanding of the business's objectives, issues, and challenges by interacting and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Master's degree in accounting, or MBA.
• 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, including at least 2+ years in a supervisor role.
Preferred Qualifications:
• CPA.
• Manufacturing or agricultural background.
