Job Title: Accounting Manager (construction)Job DescriptionAn established electrical low-voltage contractor specializing in the design and integration of building automation systems, building management systems, and structured cabling is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join its accounting team. In this role, you provide direct support on all accounting-related functions, lead the general ledger and full-cycle accounting processes, and serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries from accounting team members. You ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, drive process improvements, and collaborate closely with other finance leaders to support the organization's strategic and operational goals.
Responsibilities- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the company's financial reporting requirements and general ledger structure.
- Manage the daily functions of the general ledger accounting team, including all phases of the full-cycle accounting process, financial analysis, and operational training and management.
- Supervise the general ledger team to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are consistently met.
- Prepare journal entries required for the month-end close and ensure accuracy and completeness of posted entries.
- Analyze financial data, identify problems or issues, and provide clear resolutions for the accounting team to implement.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and perform detailed variance analysis to support accurate financial reporting.
- Participate in quarterly close and consolidation processes to ensure timely and accurate consolidated results.
- Review the company's consolidated financial statements and related analyses for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal standards.
- Prepare consolidated support schedules for the quarterly financial reporting package.
- Assist in preparing schedule requests and supporting documentation for external auditors during quarterly reviews and the year-end audit process.
- Collaborate with other finance department managers to support overall finance department goals and objectives.
- Monitor and analyze department workflows to develop more efficient procedures and optimal use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Advise staff on the handling of non-routine reporting transactions and complex accounting issues.
- Respond to inquiries from senior finance leadership and other firm-wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests, and ad hoc analyses.
- Work closely with leadership to ensure a clean, efficient, and timely year-end audit.
- Manage all employees within the accounting department, including overseeing performance management, coaching, and professional development.
- Lead and support the hiring process for accounting department roles, ensuring appropriate staffing and skill alignment.
- Assist leadership with special projects, including process improvements, system enhancements, and workflow optimization initiatives.
Essential Skills- 10+ years of total accounting experience.
- At least 5+ years of experience as an Accounting Manager within a construction company.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and full-cycle accounting processes.
- Proven experience managing month-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations.
- Hands-on experience with construction accounting, including project accounting, job costing, and related financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounts payable processes, including invoice processing and vendor management.
- Proficiency in accounts receivable processes, including billing, collections, and cash application.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyze balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements.
- Experience preparing financial reports, consolidated financial statements, and support schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong skills in performing reconciliations and variance analysis to ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Ability to manage and supervise an accounting team, including workload planning and performance management.
- Experience supporting external audits and responding to auditor requests for schedules and documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to respond to inquiries from finance leadership and cross-functional managers.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze department work and improve procedures while maintaining high accuracy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience using Viewpoint Vista (also known as Viewpoint, Vista, or Vista Plus) is preferred.
- Background in electrical, construction, or contracting industries is highly beneficial.
- Experience with building automation systems, building management systems, or structured cabling environments is an advantage.
- Proven ability to collaborate with other finance managers to align on department goals and initiatives.
- Experience advising staff on non-routine and complex reporting transactions.
- Track record of leading special projects and implementing workflow process improvements.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while also leading and developing a team in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Walnut Creek, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
