Position Overview

The Accounting Manager will oversee the full accounting function across two related entities, managing day-to-day operations while ensuring accurate financial reporting and a timely close process. This role is responsible for the general ledger, financial statements, and oversight of AP, AR, and payroll, while also supporting project-based accounting activities. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical accounting foundation, leadership experience, and the ability to create structure within a collaborative, stable environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the general ledger and lead the month-end close process for two entities
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Manage and review day-to-day accounting operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Supervise and mentor a small accounting team, providing guidance and establishing effective processes and controls
  • Handle monthly union reporting requirements
  • Process and/or oversee payroll tax filings, including quarterly and annual filings (e.g., 940s, 941s)
  • Support percentage-of-completion (POC) billing and revenue recognition
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with leadership to improve processes, reporting, and overall accounting function efficiency

Team Structure
  • Direct oversight of 3 team members:
    • Staff Accountant
    • AP/AR Specialist
    • Payroll Specialist

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close
  • Experience overseeing AP, AR, and payroll functions
  • Familiarity with payroll tax filings (e.g., 940, 941)
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting or project-based accounting strongly preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a small team environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in construction, project-based, or contract accounting environments
  • Exposure to union reporting requirements
  • CPA or CPA-track is a plus
