Position Overview The Accounting Manager will oversee the full accounting function across two related entities, managing day-to-day operations while ensuring accurate financial reporting and a timely close process. This role is responsible for the general ledger, financial statements, and oversight of AP, AR, and payroll, while also supporting project-based accounting activities. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical accounting foundation, leadership experience, and the ability to create structure within a collaborative, stable environment.
Key Responsibilities - Oversee the general ledger and lead the month-end close process for two entities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage and review day-to-day accounting operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
- Supervise and mentor a small accounting team, providing guidance and establishing effective processes and controls
- Handle monthly union reporting requirements
- Process and/or oversee payroll tax filings, including quarterly and annual filings (e.g., 940s, 941s)
- Support percentage-of-completion (POC) billing and revenue recognition
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements
- Partner with leadership to improve processes, reporting, and overall accounting function efficiency
Team Structure - Direct oversight of 3 team members:
- Staff Accountant
- AP/AR Specialist
- Payroll Specialist
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close
- Experience overseeing AP, AR, and payroll functions
- Familiarity with payroll tax filings (e.g., 940, 941)
- Experience with percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting or project-based accounting strongly preferred
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a small team environment
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in construction, project-based, or contract accounting environments
- Exposure to union reporting requirements
- CPA or CPA-track is a plus
