Summary

This position is located in the Justice Management Division's Asset Forfeiture Management Staff (AFMS). The Asset Forfeiture Management Staff is responsible for the administrative management functions of the Asset Forfeiture Program in the Department of Justice. These functions include managing the Assets Forfeiture Fund. Managing and overseeing contracts supporting asset forfeiture program-wide.

The duties and responsibilities for a Accountant (Staff), GS-0510-13/14 generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Provides authoritative guidance on fund control activities requiring extensive and significant coordination between government agencies impacting agency-wide accounting operations.

* Develops financial management policy to address the resolution of highly difficult problems, provide direction regulatory requirements, adequate internal controls, and capturing useful, reliable, and meaningful financial information.

* Evaluates and determines accounting data requirements for national programs.

* Plans, develops, and implements program-wide procedures, policies, and guidelines related to complete accounting programs.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Accountant (Staff), at GS-0510-13/14, you must meet the basic qualification requirements AND meet the specialized experience at the selected grade level listed below.

Basic Qualifications:

1. Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.") (NOTE: Transcripts must be provided)

OR

2. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. (NOTE: Transcripts and/or appropriate documentation must be provided)

AND

Specialized Experience


GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate you have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service verifying accuracy of data, such as disbursements and collections entered into an automated accounting systems; AND utilizing seizure valuation standards to determine collections are disclosed at fair market value.

GS-14: Your resume must demonstrate you have one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service performing fund controlling activities, such as segregating funds, budget tracking and/or inter-fund transfers; AND verifing accuracy of data, such as disbursements and collections entered into an automated accounting software system.

You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including time-in-grade, by the 06/11/2026 of this announcement.

Selection may be made at any grade level, with non-competitive promotion potential to target grade. Non-competitive promotion potential to the target grade based on time-in-grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the higher graded duties.

Education

Education must be reviewed and certified by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, in order for it to be creditable towards your qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from accredited institution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. If you are qualifying on foreign education, you MUST submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Transcripts must be uploaded with your application to verify education.
