Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a detail-oriented and organized Accountant Advanced to perform independently complex accounting and auditing work involving the maintenance of the account system utilized at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired. The incumbent will review and verify accuracy and appropriateness of financial documents and data on the state of Illinois Accountability, Credibility, Transparency, Sustainability (ACTS) Standard Accounting Program. This position acts as custodian for Petty Cash Funds and prepares Locally Held Fund payments and receipts. The Accountant Advanced meets with inter/intra agency staff and contractors to reconcile complex issues.

Essential Functions

  • Performs independently complex accounting and auditing work involving the maintenance of the account system utilized at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI).
  • Reviews and verifies accuracy and appropriateness of financial documents and data on the state of Illinois Accountability, Credibility, Transparency, Sustainability (ACTS) Standard Accounting Program.
  • Examines and verifies accuracy and appropriateness of Locally Held Funds utilizing the current statewide Accounting System.
  • Acts as custodian for Petty Cash Funds.
  • Meets with inter/intra agency staff and contractors to reconcile complex issues.
  • Serves as a professional resource to lower-level staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college, with courses in business administration and accounting.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.


Conditions of Employment

  • Must meet Illinois School for the Visually Impaired health and safety requirements.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
