Position SummaryThe Department of Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks a board certified / board eligible physician anesthesiologist to serve as Vice Chair of the Community Division. This position provides operational, clinical, and strategic leadership across MCW's community-based anesthesiology practice, which spans two community hospitals and four ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) in the greater Milwaukee area. The Vice Chair partners closely with departmental leadership to ensure consistent, high-quality anesthesia care and operational excellence across all community sites.
Position Highlights- Serve as the senior physician leader for the Community Division, with full accountability for operations, physician recruitment, and budget/financial performance across all community sites.
- Provide direct leadership and oversight to two Community Division Leaders: one responsible for the community hospital sites and one responsible for the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) sites.
- Partner with and provide mentorship to the Medical Directors at each of the two community hospitals and four ASCs, ensuring alignment with departmental and divisional goals.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategy for community-based anesthesiology faculty and advanced practice providers (APPs).
- Own the divisional budget, including staffing models, capital and operating expenses, and financial performance across all sites.
- Clinical 50% - maintain an active clinical anesthesia practice within the community division.
- Teaching % and description - support resident/APP education at community sites, as applicable, and facilitate faculty development at each of the sites.
- Serve as a key liaison between the Community Division and department/hospital system leadership on quality, safety, and strategic initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chair or Chair-Designate.
Team StructureThe Vice Chair, Community Division leads a multi-site leadership team consisting of:
- 2 Community Division Leaders (1 - Community Hospitals; 1 - Ambulatory Surgery Centers)
- Site-based Medical Directors at each of the 2 community hospitals and 4 ASCs
- Division Director: Pain Division
- Director of Clinical Operations
- Community-based anesthesiology faculty and APP staff across all sites

- Pain Division: Froedtert Hospital, Orthopedic Sport and Spine Center, Tosa Health Center, Drexel Town Square, West Bend Hospital and ASC

In this role, the successful candidate will oversee and optimize operations across each of our sites, partner with dyad leaders to increase procedural volume, and adjust staffing ratios to ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based care.
This individual will play a significant role across our community hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers, developing strategy for expansion and continued growth in support of the patients of southeast Wisconsin and the surrounding region.

Qualifications- Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Board certification (or eligibility) in Anesthesiology.
- State medical licensure, or eligibility to obtain license, in the state of Wisconsin.
- Prior experience in physician leadership and multi-site operational oversight strongly preferred.
- Experience with community hospital and ambulatory surgery center anesthesia operations preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management and physician recruitment preferred.
- Rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful finalist.
